I am currently recruiting for a UK top-100 commercial Law Firm based in the heart of Cardiff. This business is looking to recruit a Project Accountant into their Cardiff office reporting directly to the Finance Manager. This role has materialised due to continued growth within the organisation. The Finance Department supports all aspects of the firm's financial requirements from the provision of strategic support through to detailed transactional processing, with a key focus on providing excellent customer service to our internal clients. The Project Accountant will be involved in various long term financial reporting projects and has responsibility for completion of various weekly, monthly and quarterly tasks. Responsibilities will include:
• Managing the client reporting process and accounting entries in respect of high value international fixed fee billing arrangements.
• Involvement in change projects and setting up new reporting processes where required.
• Review of Firm wide reports, implementing improvements to the overall process and controls where possible.
• Preparing inputs for fee earner KPI reporting
• Maintaining fee earner records in Elite 3E, including liaising with the relevant Practice Group Head.
• Co-ordinate the annual review of charge-out rates.
• Calculation of unit cost rates and subsequent analysis of profitability reporting.
• Identifying and driving forward the implementation of process improvements. The Project Accountant will also be involved in other ad-hoc projects as and when they arise. You will receive a salary of up to £32,000 dependant on experience. Ideally you would be part qualified or qualified by experience. Legal experience or a background in professional services is advantageous. The Project Accountant will be a professional, self-motivated and positive individual who is able to demonstrate:
• an ability to actively engage in the business, through strong verbal communication skills and a pro-active approach to identifying and putting in place process improvements to ensure the needs of the partnership are met;
• excellent organisational skills with a proven track record in forward planning and managing their own time to ensure deadlines for a wide variety of activities are met in a timely and effective manner;
• track record of achievement and development in similar role; a good understanding of practice management / accounting systems, MS Excel and ideally database query and interrogation techniques; and
• excellent attention to detail, a focus on accuracy and a track record of delivering high quality outputs, balanced with pragmatic approach to meeting deadlines; and an enthusiastic and flexible approach with a 'can do' attitude.
• Have strong IT skills and excellent working knowledge of MS Excel data extraction and analysis techniques,
• Knowledge of leading Practice Management / Accounting package (e.g. Elite/SAP) and Microsoft applications (particularly development of financial models in Excel including Lookup, Pivot and Chart functions).
