Job Details

This is a Team Leader position for the direct debits team within a high-performing, Gloucestershire based finance function.

You should bring with you demonstrable skills in transactional finance (ideally sales ledger/AR, or credit control), as well as strong Excel skills and some awareness of process improvement. Managerial experience is not strictly required but you must be considered capable of leading a team.

Description

  • Responsible for overseeing the processing of Direct Debit payments and instructions, to ensure compliance with BACS regulations and to agreed timescales.
  • Ensuring all correspondence with the business and customers is accurate, appropriate and completed in a timely manner.
  • Managing the team's workload and allocating additional tasks accordingly. Understanding individual's strengths and capability.
  • Leading continuous improvement initiatives within the team and be involved in projects for the wider Finance team.
  • Key contact for the new billing system implementation, working closely with the transformation team and understanding the change in process required.
  • Checking and authorising of refunds, collections, set-ups and closures daily and weekly as required.
  • Actively managing the team, including resource allocation and development.
  • Act as a point of escalation for queries and complaints which cannot be resolved by team members. Understand customer service expectations and business requirements to resolve proactively and in a timely manner.
  • This is a very responsible role which will involve the handling of sensitive financial data and so requires someone who can show sensitivity and discretion.
  • Working closely with all staff in the finance team and assisting with any ad-hoc queries as they arise
  • Providing cover for other payment processing team leaders in their absence
  • Provision of reporting documentation for individual and team performance
  • Carrying out of regular 1:1 meetings and performance reviews with team
  • Any other ad-hoc duties as requested by Manager or Head of Department

Profile

Specific Knowledge Required

  • Experience of working in a busy finance department
  • Knowledge of BACS regulations
  • Good knowledge and use of Excel

Specific Knowledge Desired:

  • SAP processing experience
  • Experience of leading small size teams

  • Able to apply a logical thought process
  • Adaptable and used to managing change
  • Liaison with external customers
  • Ability to build rapport and remain calm under pressure
  • Confident and professional telephone manner
  • Excellent attention to detail and investigative skills
  • High level of numeracy, accuracy and problem-solving ability
  • Good computer literacy; adept with Microsoft Office and experience of bespoke software packages
  • Experience of using multiple IT systems simultaneously
  • Excellent listening skills, and verbal & written communication skills
  • Ability to organise workload and multiple priorities
  • Common Sense and ability to work on own initiative
  • Team Player
