The College offers  an ever-expanding range of subjects, from Entry Level starter courses and Apprenticeships to Foundation and BSc Honours Degrees, in centres across the North of England.

Main purpose of job:

Based at the York campus and reporting to the Senior Management Accountant the role will assist with the production of accurate and timely financial information including monthly management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, variance analysis and budgeting. The role will also provide cover for tasks across other areas in the finance office such as the processing of cashbook transactions and petty cash reconciliations.

Alongside the role you will be studying for an accountancy qualification. This is an excellent opportunity for an AAT qualified or part qualified Accountant (CIMA, ACA or equivalent) to undertake training and be supported to enable progression to Management Accountant.

Main tasks and duties:

  • Assist with the production of the monthly management accounts and day to day management accounting responsibilities including month end processes;
  • Prepare detailed accruals and prepayments calculations and release monthly funding income;
  • Assist with the preparation of the College’s annual budget and rolling forecasts liaising with budget holders as required;
  • Work with the Finance Apprentice to provide cover in the finance department. This is expected to include bank reconciliations, the posting of cashbook transactions, credit card transaction processing and petty cash maintenance and reconciliation;
  • Work with PL to review all purchase orders raised in eBis to ensure that only required orders are still outstanding and that old or unnecessary orders are cancelled
  • Reconciliation of fee income to QL system records to ensure accurately recorded;
  • Reconciliation of bursary income to source records;
  • Validate and process recharge journals including dealing with internal customers to resolve any queries;
  • Reconciliation of WIP including maintaining copies of all invoices;
  • Assist in intercompany reconciliation ensuring Farm items are recharged appropriately;
  • Submit monthly, quarterly and annual national statistical returns as required
  • Assisting in the maintenance and development of internal controls including the documentation of systems;
  • Ensuring the accuracy of the accounting and control information held in and reported from the College’s finance system;

    Key Attributes, Skills and Experience:

  • AAT qualified or part qualified accountant (CIMA, ACA or equivalent) with a minimum of 1 years’ experience in a busy finance office
  • Excellent IT skills and strong financial systems experience
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills alongside the ability to communicate effectively are essential for the role
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables and v look ups
  • Clear understanding of double entry
  • Self-starter looking for a role that will help you to progress to Management Accountant
  • Experience of Open Accounts would be an advantage
