Client Details

Our client are very well reputed within the art industry having been given numerous awards in recognition of their contribution to this space.

They have a number of established galleries specialising in Impressionist and modern British painting by noted artists.

They are an international family business at the heart of the London art world as well as a presence in Paris and New York. For four generations they have been dealing in paintings of the highest quality, dating from the 17th to the 21st century.

They pride themselves on offering the finest quality works from their large and diverse stock. Among the leaders in their profession, they have helped to form important collections for both individuals and museums.


Supporting the department:

  • Providing all necessary support and assitance to the FC and Directors by ensuring timely and accurate preparation of accounts
  • Providing departmental cover as needed
  • Review data entry by the team

Providing accurate and timely position reports:

  • Monthly management accounts prepared in good order to timetable
  • Quarterly management accounts, reports and covenant compliance prepared in good order to timetable
  • Weekly snapshot kept updated and presented to Directors each Friday


  • Production of timely and accurate monthlly and quartely financial statements
  • Ensuring ongoing compliance with accounting standards and accounting policies
  • Managing the annaul and half year reporting timetable
  • Liaison with external auditors as regards audit and preparation therefor
  • Preparation of consolidated statutory accounts, audit pack and necessary supporting schedules
  • Attending final sign off meeting

Financial control:

  • Maintaining nominal ledgers and ensuring the integrity of the coding structure
  • Monitoring internal controls and evidencing compliance
  • Maintaining appropriate control accounts and ensuring regular updating and agreement
  • Preparation of all necessary schedules in support of financial statements
  • Investigating variances
  • Ensuring the on-going reports to Directors are an accurate reflection of the position
  • Reviewing and signing off all payments prior to Director approval

Banking matter:

  • Regular reporting to bankers
  • Monitoring covenant compliance

Management accounts and reporting:

  • Establishing procedures and coordinating departmental effort to ensure that monthly management accounts are prepared monthly and circulated in a timely manner
  • Preparation of supporting papers, commentary and cash flows etc.
  • Variance analysis as necessary
  • Ensuring accurate quarterly accounts are approved by the Directors and circulated to the Company's bankers
  • Providing supporting analysis and information as required to assist Directors with decision making and management of the Gallery

Weekly snapshot of turnover, purchases, margins, stock levels and availability

Involvement in US Tax, projections and forecasts, board meetings and taxation matters


  • ACCA or ACA qualified through practice
  • At least 15 years in finance within practice firms
  • Good knowledge of corporate, personal and indirect taxes
  • Degree educated
  • Management accounts experience
  • Extensive experience of producing financial statements with knowledge of new accounting standards
