My client is the largest private provider of science to the forensic industry. The Interim The Finance Director will work closely with the Divisional MD to deliver the Divisional five year plan ensuring strategic initiatives requiring investment are prioritised and resourced; whilst implementing controls.

Business Impact

  • Play a key role in its five year plan.
  • Be a key internal partner to the Managing Director and Senior Management team, providing a high level of support for all areas of finance in the division
  • Build and maintain strong and productive relationships with the Group Finance Team
  • Assist in identifying, preparing the business case for and project managing value accretive projects for the division, including in relation to operational efficiency initiatives, capital investment projects and potential acquisitions
  • Strengthen the organisations capability to identify opportunities for improved COGS, Opex, inventory and cash collection.

Planning & Analysis

  • Rigorous management of the annual budgeting and 3 year plan, as well as quarterly updates / re-forecasts, including consolidation and interpretation of results and subsequent communication to MD, CFO, stakeholders and budget holders
  • Manage divisional level planning and analysis processes including the implementation and utilisation of financial and non-financial Key Performance Indicators (KPIs/Balanced Scorecard)
  • Be responsible for the provision of financial analysis into discrete projects and sign off on project financials
  • Ensure systems operate to maximise efficiency in daily operations and develop back office strategy together with Divisional MD & group CFO to ensure scalability to provide world class service levels, cost effectively
  • Develop the Business Objects reporting and planning tool across the divisional finance team to enhance the production of meaningful management information and resulting decision-making processes
  • Develop a strong awareness of commercial and operational issues across the division in order to be able to advise and anticipate the potential impact of different Advise and coach Senior Managers in Financial Planning and Analysis responsibility across the divisional locations

Stakeholder Management

  • Support the SLT and division through the provision of excellent management information and advice on commercial and operational matters
  • Develop board papers for projects and capital spend ensuring that an appropriate level of authorisation is given
  • Provide input and support to the Group Finance team in developing and delivering high quality communication and reporting to banks and shareholders

M & A, & Divestment

  • Support the MD, CFO and Corporate Development Director in M&A and Divestment activities and projects, particularly in relation to business plan development, synergy identification and divisional integration
  • In chosen instances, be the Integration Director, responsible for execution of integration plan
  • Provide input to any related financial, taxation, insurance and other due diligence activities

Financial Control

  • Implement and maintain robust systems for efficient and effective divisional financial control, with a particular focus on delivering highest quality service for lowest possible cost
  • Ensure appropriate dissipation of relevant financial data across Forensics and Security business on a timely basis


  • Provide strong leadership and direction for the divisional finance team
  • Coach and develop the finance team in accordance ensuring a pipeline of talent and capability to provide consistent high performance across the function.
  • Set and monitor stretching individual and team objectives to elevate performance levels
  • Develop and drive a customer service oriented culture
  • Identify and act upon opportunities for process improvement across all areas of responsibility



  • Strong Intellectual capacity - Degree/Masters and professional qualifications, ACA/CIMA
  • Significant in a senior finance role of a commercially oriented finance function
  • Operated in an environment that has scaled up commercially, across a number of geographies, with a string key account and pricing focus
  • Experience of merger and acquisition related processes, particularly integration, would be advantageous
  • A scientific background and experience of working in the life sciences sector would be advantageous
  • Used to creating and managing within a process improvement KPI led environment - financial and non-financial - within a multisite product business operations
