Finance Manager for West Berkshire School

Your new company
My client is a school based in West Berkshire, who are looking for a Finance Manager to join their team. This role will be reporting to the Headmaster, has onsite parking and will be responsible for managing 1 other member of staff.

Your new role

  • Assisting the Senior Leadership Team in the formulation and management of the school's budgets & forecasts; liaising with school and head office personnel involved in the budget process.
  • Leading and managing the Financial Administrative Assistant and any other staff allocated to the finance team.
  • Ensure the accurate processing of information in line with financial regulations and as agreed by head office.
  • Managing the sales ledger, including debtor management.
  • Set up and approve new suppliers to the school and manage staff expenses.
  • To be the named person to withdraw cash for use within the school from the school bank account and petty cash management. Perform regular bank account reconciliation
  • Preparation of information for year-end audit, liaising with auditors and senior stakeholders within that process
  • Management of school cash flow, including reporting on current / forecast positions and giving advice to stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Establishing and maintaining a purchase order system, be responsible for first stage authorisation
  • Produce management accounts reporting packs for the school and for any other schools within the group as required.
  • Prepare balance sheet control accounts and review for integrity on a monthly basis
  • Set up payment runs and enter manual payments to the bank
  • Processing month end journals such as differed income, fixed assets, accruals and prepayments
  • Supporting the School Business Manager in developing additional revenue streams including letting of school facilities to external bodies e.g. weddings, training and corporate functions.
  • In liaison with the Senior Leadership Team, recommend the fee structure and other charges.
  • Management of payroll; maintain up to date records of all changes to personnel pay details; provide timely monthly information to the payroll provider and other relevant bodies.
  • Ensure all licenses, insurance and registrations are in place and maintained in accordance with their terms (Data Controller).
  • Produce regular information for a variety of purposes including DCFS and ISI.
  • Negotiate favourable prices and contracts advising on best value.
  • Oversee banking and administration of all matters associated with the school's funds in conjunction with Head Office
  • Financial management of the school's transport provision including insurances
  • Training and performance review of staff in the finance department.
  • Any reasonable request from the Senior Leadership Team



What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience working in a school desirable but not essential
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience preparing full month end management accounts
