North Bristol Reporting to: CEO Hours: 16 to 20 hours (over two to four days) About our Client A charity based in North Bristol is looking for a motivated individual with excellent technical aptitude, and with a clear record of delivering accurate finances, preferably in the charity sector. You will be joining a small, dedicated team to provide finance support across the organisation. The role of Finance Officer combines the essential bookkeeping function with initiatives to develop more effective and streamlined procedures. Responsibilities This is an exciting role for a conscientious, hands-on individual who enjoys keeping accurate records and has a good understanding of basic accounting concepts. Specifically, the role will include: Processing all transactions and keeping an accurate record in Sage; Checking bank statements, entering standing orders and other direct payments in Sage, querying unclear or erroneous transactions, and carrying out a monthly bank reconciliation; Receiving and banking cash and cheque collections and takings from fundraising events; Paying supplier invoices, expenses claims, grants to universities and other invoices; Liaising with Universities to chase/query outstanding invoices and maintaining commitments spreadsheet; Analysing investments to ensure sufficient liquidity at all times; Completing Gift Aid claims to HMRC; Downloading and analysing online fundraising reports; Manage lottery receipts/payments and process on Sage; Preparing monthly management accounts and quarterly reports including processing accruals, prepayments and other journals; Assisting the Chief Executive and Trustees in the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget; Assisting the Chief Executive with various aspects of governance and administration relating to the accounts; Attending occasional meetings and events as required both during and outside normal office hours; Liaising with and providing information to the Honorary Treasurer; Carrying out any other duties compatible with this post as directed, from time to time, by the Chief Executive Requirements Essential: A relevant accountancy or business qualification e.g. Degree, AAT qualified or equivalent Proven experience of recording accounting transactions and maintaining accounting records Experience of bank reconciliations IT literate including experience in using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and the Internet. Excellent attention to detail Ability to prepare and present financial information clearly and concisely Comfortable working within a team setting Ability to work independently and to tight deadlines Flexible, proactive and able to work under pressure Ability to apply discretion in sensitive issues, and maintain confidentiality at all times Desirable: Knowledge of Sage and/or cloud accounting systems (preferably Quickbooks) Experience of producing management accounts and other analysis Experience of financial and management accounts preparation Budgeting and forecasting Experience of working for a charity or not-for-profit organization Experience with the management and administration of Gift Aid Ablility to analyse and interrogate financial information Please be aware that by applying through this job board your CV will be added to their database.
