An outstanding Financial Controller opportunity with an innovative and fast-growing UK&I Division of a Global PLC which are a leading provider of specialist testing services to the construction, rail, highways and maintenance sectors. The UK and Irish business generates c.£10m in revenue and has the potential to double in terms of volume and establish itself as an extremely profitable division. The role is ideal for an ambitious ACA/CIMA/ACCA qualified accountant who is on the upward trajectory and seeking progression into a Divisional Finance role in the future. The Requirement To deliver the above strategy, the focus of this role will be to ensure that all management accounting, budgeting and forecasting activities for the UK and Irish business are in line with the business needs. Additionally, a key focus will be to establish a more robust finance function and drive high quality and insightful management information. Reporting to the Finance Director, key responsibilities will include: - - Lead and mentor a finance team of 5 (including 2 Credit Controllers, AP clerk, Assistant Accountant and a Management Accountant) ensuring that they are able to carry out their responsibilities effectively. - Implement appropriate weekly meetings and KPIs to ensure the finance team are operating at their full potential and provided with adequate training requirements and support in line with their development. - Manage the finance function to deliver accurate and timely management accounts in line with the group reporting timetable, including P&L, Balance Sheet, KPI's, detailed supporting commentary and analysis of performance for presentation to Group. - Provide detailed monthly analysis of each project to track spend against budget and report to the project managers. - Prepare statutory accounts ensuring compliance with industry regulatory bodies. - Establish yourself as the 'right hand' to the Finance Director offering sound financial advice and robustly challenging where necessary. - Develop and enhance existing practices across the organisation to support profit maximisation. - Review and maintain a strong financial and operational control environment, implementing robust financial controls and procedures as required to create more effective reporting and increasing the influence of Finance across the business. - Other ad hoc duties as required and as the business develops further. - Oversee and drive the aged debt process to manage and maximise working capital. - Support the team to produce accurate weekly cash forecasting, in order to maximise cash flow management within the business. - Manage credit limits for clients to eliminate any potential risks to the business. - Produce a detailed management pack for the SMT and be proactive in seeking ways to improve and simplify this to include more accurate and insightful information to aid decision making. - Manage the relationships with and answer ad hoc queries from the Group tax, treasury and finance teams e.g. from queries from the Treasury team regarding foreign currencies. - Lead internal and external audit process and establish yourself as the main point of contact for any queries This will be a hands-on role, requiring a high degree of commercial acumen and operational experience. You will need to be conscientious and technically competent to enable your role to have a strategic influence. The Candidate - Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA, or CIMA and have worked within a corporate environment) with a good academic track record. - Experience of managing and developing an effective finance function, with the ability to mentor and develop as necessary. - Engaging style of communication, the ability both to build strong working relationships across all levels within the company both internal and external. - Strong technical knowledge - Strategic exposure, experience in supporting a Senior Leadership team with the implementation and delivery of business strategy. - Proactivity and change orientated, with the ability to adapt quickly to the nature of working within a dynamic and fast paced environment that is constantly changing due to acquisition and diversification. - Self-starter, willing to be involved in the detail, whilst having sufficient gravitas to support and challenge the Operations Directors as required. - Strong IT and systems skills, with ability to challenge the 'status quo' to drive efficiency and automation. - Self-motivated, organised and capable of developing in the current role over time with the ambition and drive to develop their career within the business to becoming a potential Finance Director of the future. - Appropriate post qualified experience, ideally having worked within a relevant sector e.g. a project led environment/construction/engineering.
