Job Description This manager -level role will be the lead tax professional for Stryker's highly-acquisitive Orthopaedics group. He or she will work directly with each of the four Orthopaedics Divisions/Business Units Finance, Business Development, Operational and other personnel to achieve business objectives in a tax-efficient manner. Proactively engage and develop key relationships to develop in-depth understanding of each of the Orthopaedic commercial businesses. Leverage Orthopaedic business understanding to identify tax opportunities and mitigate potential tax exposures, and implement appropriate strategies to address in conjunction with Tax Functional Leaders and other tax personnel and external tax advisors, through proactive engagement and leadership. Provide lead tax functional support for all Orthopedic Group and Spine business development activity; collaborate effective with Tax Functional leadership. Actively engage with Tax Department Leadership to ensure global integration and consistency of technical positions and processes; must have ability to understand broad tax technical concepts and anticipate issues. Assist in maintaining an effective and optimal control environment with regard to tax reporting and compliance, while ensuring proper reporting of all tax related matters and providing support in identifying, documenting and monitoring any uncertain tax positions in conjunction with Tax Functional leadership. May directly or indirectly manage tax personnel on a variety of projects; provide guidance and oversight to tax staff as they assist with tax technical research and writing, journal entry support for intercompany transactions, withholding tax and treaty research, tax abatement support, CER reviews for tax items/inputs, and business development support. Contribute to staff development of tax M&A expertise Participate in development of work plans, review and approve work product; Provide feedback and direction. Education and Experience Bachelor degree in Business/Finance or comparable education. Professional certification and/or advanced degree preferred. Minimum of 7 years relevant professional experience. Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in progressively responsible positions in a corporate tax department, public accounting firm or comparable experience. Fortune 500 corporate tax department or International CPA firm experience preferred. Broad technical skills, including US federal income tax, US international tax, transfer pricing, tax compliance and accounting for income tax. Knowledge of the US taxation of US-based multinationals international activities. Strong research and analytical skills.
