Our partner is a young start-up with a mission to empower Armenian women through sport, giving them the confidence and life skills to challenge gender stereotypes in the country.
The partner has outsourced their accounting function; the external accountant is responsible for the bookkeeping, preparation of year-end financial statements, and tax & regulatory compliance. The CEO has oversight of the finance function; as part of her role, she has developed a detailed organisational budget, and is working with the external accountant to receive monthly management accounts. However, as she does not have a background in accounting & finance, she is seeking the support of a volunteer to:
- Support her in establishing proper checks and balances, and creating accounting & organisational processes & policies bearing in mind that the finance function is currently outsourced.
- Review the budget she has created and ensure that it properly captures the expected spending, and from which she should be able to get a meaningful monthly report from the accountants.

Tailored volunteer assignments of 2 to 12 weeks form part of an ongoing strategy to build the financial management capacity and long term sustainability of small community based charities across Africa, Asia and South America. Our partners which include street kid centres, health clinics and rural schools are doing amazing work to tackle extreme poverty and inequality in their communities but are unable to access vital professional services. A f I D is now supporting almost grassroots charities in over 50 countries across Africa, Asia and South America and are keen to talk to more accountants willing to share their invaluable skills and experience. In only ten years we are pleased to announce the placement of our 1000th volunteer. This will take the total hours of pro-bono financial management coaching by our volunteers to over 200,000. An extraordinary effort, that assisted the development, and in some cases survival, of some fantastic organisations.
