About us Our client is an International Insurer, underwriting a diverse portfolio of property, casualty, marine and resinsurance business on a world-wide basis. These products are underwrittten throguh Lloyd's of London, and regionally through commercial insurance routes. The role Our client has been at the forefront of advising clients on the changing environment for contractors and has scored notable successes before the tribunals on IR35. In addition to advising clients on the implications of the rules, they are able to arrange Tax Indemnity Insurance to protect businesses against unexpected tax demands, as well as more conventional tax advisory work in reviewing contractual chains, working practices and contractual documentation. They work alongside colleagues in our specialist Reward Consulting team to deliver a rounded service to our clients, covering all aspects of employment taxes. We are looking for an experienced tax consultant to work as part of a team specialising in employment taxes, specifically issues affecting contractors: employment status, IR35, the Construction Industry Scheme, umbrella companies and agencies. We are looking for a confident, organised and motivated person to work with a growing team with a proven track record of success in tribunal. The role takes in all aspects of Contractor Consulting, including defending HMRC enquiries, umbrella compliance and consultancy. The successful candidate will be responsible for helping to manage and assist in the development of a talented young team, giving them the opportunity to grow their own skills. It is anticipated that the role will be mainly office-based, but some travel to clients will be required. Key accountabilities Provide technical advice and support to clients on employment taxes both verbally and via written correspondence. To represent clients who are in dispute with HMRC with regard to IR35, Self-Employed Status, CIS, Managed Service Companies legislation, S44 ITEPA 2003 etc. Managing and developing junior members of the team, including reviewing written work and assisting with the provision of structured training, tailored to the needs of the team. Take part in marketing initiatives, this may involve lecturing, writing articles for publication, delivery of webinars and building/maintaining personal professional networks. Be pro-active and identify opportunities to act on the interpretation of new legislation with a view to winning new work. Skills & experience Preferably experience in a senior or semi-senior position dealing with self-employed status and IR35. Sound knowledge of case law on self-employed status and comfortable utilising case law and legislation on a regular basis. Ideally with a background in HMRC Enquiries and employer compliance. A good understanding and awareness of tax compliance requirements. Business development and marketing of tax services. Able to use the functionality of Word and Excel to a high standard, strong, effective research skills.
