Many a CFO has argued that the route to the top is through building up a raft of skills, a portfolio of tools, learnt through exposure to a diverse range of experiences, challenges and environments. It's not all about the numbers. Using your commercial acumen and networking skills you'll be encouraged to be out in the business rather than stuck behind a desk; you'll want to understand how our laboratories operate, their pain points, their priorities and offer insight into achieving their operating goals to budget. The numbers are important and no doubt you know your way around spreadsheets, budgets and reporting packs, but that's only half the story. You will be acting as an intermediary between the central finance team and Viapath Analytics' & Services' operations at Guy's and St Thomas' hospital sites. Handling sensitive relationships properly to facilitate you to do your job and maintain the commercial position is the other skill. Pathology is a complex and varied sector, challenging because you will be analysing trends to identify poignant insights and solid financial facts and, in some instances, having to make decisions based on uncertain data. This will mean being resilient and persistent in certain circumstances, working at the edge of your comfort zone. This can be a problem for some, but maybe not for you... What's the day to day look like? You will be responsible for working closely with senior operations staff, producing, interpreting and communicating the financial results; you'll partner with them to take the actions necessary to deliver the budget on target, as well as driving further improvements in the financial performance of the business. Each month you'll gather financial and operational data from various sources and produce the month-end reporting packs which are key to interpreting performance and partner with the site leads to take management actions based on the information. You will analyse and monitor financial information and produce variance analysis, budgeting and re-forecasting, as well as provide analysis to support business cases which drive the business forward. A bit about us: A complex joint venture between Guy's and St Thomas' and King's College Hospital Foundation Trusts, we are a Pathology provider aimed at exceeding quality standards and driving forward innovative techniques to benefit our customer's patients. Pathology is involved in around 80% of patient diagnosis and as technology is embraced, we're finding faster and more effective investigations for those who need it.
