Chief Finance Officer Professional Membership Body Central London Basic Salary £80,000 with excellent benefits Permanent, Full Time Our client a well-respected and reputable professional membership body is currently looking for a Chief Finance Officer. The Role Based at the London office, the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) leads and manages the Finance team and has primary responsibility for all statutory and management reporting for both the institute. The Finance team supplies core finance services to the institute businesses including supplier invoice processing and payment, customer collections, cash control and management reporting. In addition, the CFO looks after investments, pensions, payroll, insurances and oversees branch finances. A member of the wider leadership team, the CFO will work closely with senior colleagues of the institute. The Institute use the NAVision accounting system. Key Responsibilities Lead the delivery of the financial management service Lead the strategic financial planning Responsible for the preparation of the statutory accounts and core financial reporting for Councils and committees Ensure regular liaison with the Chair of Audit Committee as well as the Chairs of the Finance & Operations Committee and the Finance Steering Group Support and prepare papers for the Audit Committee, including preparation of Minutes and following through with actions Maintain good working relationships with key third parties, auditors, investment managers, bankers, third party suppliers Engage non-financial managers in the financial management of both organisations, coaching them in the financial implications of their decisions Provide advice on financial and legal issues Management, development and support of the Finance team Keep up to date with changes in law and regulation relevant to the institute identifying the implications for both organisations and taking timely action where required Initiate debate on new policy areas or where key financial policies need updating Responsible for the operation of key controls over the accounting records, notably bank reconciliations and reconciliations between finance and membership systems Ensure accurate and timely preparation of VAT returns and annual reconciliations, including making sure we are compliant with the MTD for VAT rules Ensure payroll is run properly and promptly Control of cashflows and investment management Supporting other departments to ensure debt collection is timely Authorising supplier and expense payment runs Represent institute at events and conferences The maintenance and development of the corporate risk register with input from the SMT Person Specification A qualified senior-level manager accountancy qualification (ICAEW, CIMA, ACCA, ACA, CIPFA). BSc/BA in accounting, finance or relevant field essential, MBA/MSc/MA desirable An analytical mind and advanced knowledge of financial analysis, planning and forecasting In depth expertise in corporate finance and accounting principles, laws and best practices. Willing to assume a hands-on role whilst managing and developing the Finance team Experienced in managing auditor relationships and in preparing year end statutory accounts for a charity to include VAT returns Able to think strategically and be involved in the overall development of both organisations Able to drive change and process improvement Well-developed communication skills with the ability to explain financial principles and engage with non-financial managers Experience in performance management to include developing KPIs Understanding of the need for a service mentality from the finance function which is delivered as a shared service to more than one organisation. Ability to influence and challenge the executive team on key strategic and operational decisions Up-to-date and thorough understanding of current financial and reporting requirements, particularly those relating to the charitable sector Proficient in use of MS Office 365/MS Office and CRM software - experience of NAVision (and of working with Microsoft Dynamics is preferable but not essential).
