The Opportunity: We are looking for a Catastrophe Risk Analyst to join our team, this is your chance to create your career in an exciting environment where anything is possible. Are you ready to grow your career with us? As a Catastrophe Risk Analyst for QBE you will analyse and monitor the catastrophe risk metrics for QBE's Retail portfolios. Interpret output from the models to assist Underwriters in managing their aggregate exposure and writing profitable business.Your responsibilities for this role may include, but are not limited to: Work with a team of data cleansing and catastrophe risk analysts based in our India office to perform analytics on potential new accounts using catastrophe models. Interpret output from the models and explain results to Underwriters to assist them with risk selection.Manage the workload sent from Underwriters to the India team, monitoring turnaround and report accuracy. Perform validation checks to ensure high quality catastrophe modelling information is received by Underwriters.Provide training to the India team to ensure they are fully aware of all London catastrophe modelling procedures, making at least annual visits to their office and receiving visits from the India team to the London office.Manage the accounts recorded in the centralised database and import all bound policies accurately. Create portfolio-level reports on a monthly basis and advise Underwriting Managers how to optimise their portfolios.Transition the importing of bound accounts and portfolio-level monthly reporting to the India team over time.Be proficient at using catastrophe modelling software and develop a detailed understanding of how the models work. Attend seminars and conferences to consolidate knowledge and learn about new developments in the industry.Build and maintain strong relationships with the underwriters and the India team. Visiting branch offices and India team office to strengthen communication (India Team) and understanding of catastrophe modelling concepts and management of exposure.Assist with the reporting and mapping of exposure and/or losses for real-time events.Work on ad-hoc projects for the Catastrophe Modelling Central Team.You will need to be able to display you have the following qualifications and experience:Undergraduate degree, preferably in a quantitative, scientific, or environmental disciplineKnowledge of commercial insurance and/or the catastrophe modelling industryProficient at using catastrophe modelling softwareStrong analytical and numerical ability, in order to interrogate large datasetsExcellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to explain technical concepts clearlyIntermediate/Advanced Excel skillsPro-active attitude to identifying inefficient processes and developing improvementCoding experience in a relevant language would be advantageous but not a necessity (e.g. SQL, VBA, R, C#)Experience in using mapping software (e.g. GIS)At QBE, we view our people as our most precious asset.
