Finance Director: Are you an experienced Finance professional looking to make your first step into a board-level role? An experienced, driven, pragmatic, and articulate Finance Director is required to join the highly entrepreneurial senior team and take responsibility for the financial oversight and development of the finance team and its systems and controls, whilst also supporting the board. Our client has, for over 45 years, been a market-leading manufacturer of specialised life science equipment. Due to sustained growth, an opportunity exists for a Finance Director to take responsibility for all aspects of the financial accounting and reporting for the organisation. The successful candidate will become a key member of the senior management team, working closely with the Managing Director and other departmental managers including sales, marketing, production and R&D to continue the recent period of successful growth. From our base in Sunbury south west London, Planer has pioneered the development and use of many products to help clinicians, biologists, scientists and researchers to achieve scientific breakthroughs in biology, medicine and industry. The product range includes bench top incubators, programmable freezers, data loggers, alarms, cryogenic storage and software systems and sensors which are used for the safe preservation of medical and biological specimens. Planer hold a number of patents and have received the Queen's Award for Technology and awards from the DTI for Innovation and Good Practice in Micro-electronics. Key Responsibilities Oversee preparation and review of Planer subsidiary financial statements and management reports. Maintain general ledger, internal budget, and cost controls. Manage and supervise departmental staff effectively and efficiently. Manage cash flow through inventory optimization, expense controls, and receivables and payables oversight. Manage HR, payroll, compensation and employee benefit plans in small company environment. Coordinate to provide annual profit planning and budget process. Coordinate the annual audit process. Support various internal groups with the preparation and review of analysis and reporting, including quarterly reporting to Planer's parent company. Analyse product costs and related margins, as well as department and travel expense variances. Skills and Experience Qualified Financial Controller with a minimum of 5 years senior finance experience in business (including commercial and legal aspects). Experience within a manufacturing environment. Professional individual with demonstrated ability to perform in a team-oriented environment. Strong work ethic with a high level of attention to detail and willingness to be hands-on. Excellent communication skills, as well as management and organizational skills. High proficiency with Excel spreadsheets, Word and PowerPoint. Experience of implementing new integrated financial software, including inventory costing and control. Ability to generate respect and trust from staff, colleagues, and external constituencies. Knowledge and experience of global import and export procedures (desirable).
