About Barclays Risk Barclays Risk is mandated by the Barclays Board with the overall management and oversight of risk management practices group-wide. It operates right across the organisation, and right across the globe to protect Barclays financial performance and reputation. Our Risk professionals have advanced technical skills across a broad range of disciplines. They take the lead in addressing issues including the potential implications of an economic downturn or financial crime, and in advising Barclays business leaders in making measured decisions. Through dedicated support services Risk teams make a real difference to Barclays business clients by sanctioning loans and investments, and by helping to turnaround their fortunes when they are facing financial difficulties. We also provide peace of mind for Barclays Retail customers by protecting their assets and investments, whilst also protecting the transactions of our Barclaycard customers wherever they are in the world. About Model Risk Management Model Risk Management (MRM) reports directly to the Group Chief Risk Officer and responsible for the identification, assessment, monitoring and management of model risk within Barclays. Model risk is the potential for adverse consequences from decisions based on incorrect or misused model outputs. The Model Risk Management functions mandate is to independently and actively manage model risk globally in line with the banks risk appetite. Key responsibilities of the function include Designing and implementing the MRM framework, including requisite governance forums for monitoring and escalation of model risk relevant issues Defining Barclays model risk standards and policies, aligned to regulatory requirements, including roles and responsibilities for key stakeholders across the model lifecycle Defining the model risk strategy and priorities, with oversight of model risk related topics across the banks divisions and functions Performing independent model validation to ensure effective challenge of model development and usage, including identification of compensating controls for use of models, model issues, etc. Pro-active identification of model risks at requisite levels functions, business areas, legal entities etc. Defining the approach for and recommending model risk appetite to the CRO and Management Board, and effectively providing oversight and managing model risk within the appetite set Establishing model risk metrics and reporting to the Management Board on a periodic basis Ensuring oversight of the banks model risk related transformation to target state We are an equal opportunity employer and we are opposed to discrimination on any grounds. Overall purpose of role The role holder will be responsible for The strategy, communication, planning and project management function for MRM The transformation agenda and delivery for MRM The internal and external communications across MRM for large and senior audiences including the coordination of all senior level presentations and reports for MRM Global development and delivery of training for MRM Ad hoc projects, initiatives and small change deliverables Main duties include Support the Head of MRM in the definition of the MRM strategic roadmap and own and drive the delivery of the transformation priorities and activities across the organisation Own Model Risk reporting for senior stakeholders, including the various regulatory entity Boards, Risk ExCos, Control Committees, etc. Ownership, development, organisation and delivery of training throughout the firm on MRM related matters Engage virtually with the NY and London teams, ensuring activities aligned to other areas within MRM are addressed Be an effective liaison with all stakeholders for Model Risk initiatives and in particular initiative owners and accountable senior management Define, deliver, socialise and report on the execution of the strategic roadmap with internal, peer and senior stakeholders and prepare suitable documentation and support the progress of MRM initiatives Address strategic inquiries which are received by audit, regulators, senior management, and the board, engaging the appropriate MRM stakeholders to effectively respond and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards. Person Specification Experience in Model Risk or other Risk discipline ability to understand Model Risk at a high level and distil information for senior audience Strategic Perspective Ability to understand the holistic MRM agenda and think strategically about key initiatives that ensure future growth Communication - Strong communication skills. Can produce concise, organized and thoughtful presentations for technical and non-technical audiences. Planning and Organisation Ability to run concurrent processes effectively Team work - Ability to work with and in cross-functional and virtual teams across locations.
