Working alongside the Managing Director, the Finance Director will support the leadership team in growing the business. The Finance Director will lead the finance team to ensure sound accounting, processing and financial control, in addition to providing financial operations, advice and business support to managing director and senior team. The successful candidate will lead change management within finance, working with department heads and other stakeholders to help plan and manage budgets, produce timely and relevant reporting, analysing variances. We are looking for a hands-on, experienced, trustworthy professional to join the team and ensure the smooth running of keeping the financial operations of the business. Accuracy and compliance is critical, as is the ability to gauge discrepancies and evaluate opportunities for lowering costs. Experience of working at a senior level is essential, as is a progressive CV with infrequent job moves,The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant from a regulated industry. We use a specialist internal computer system along with Sage. Therefore, it is important that you are computer literate and are confident in using Outlook, Word and Excel. A suitable candidate would be confident in verbal and written forms of communication and able to communicate to people both internally and externally in a clear and professional manner. The department is a fast-paced environment; therefore it is important that you are able to prioritise and organise your workload efficiently. Key Responsibilities Efficient operation of accounting and financial processing Full reconciliation and financial control procedures including p reparation and posting of monthly accruals, prepayments and similar accounting entries. On time production of all management accounts, budgets, forecasts and financial accounts Lead the analysis of monthly and quarterly numbers and present findings to the board and other relevant stakeholders Continually identify risks to delivery, propose solutions where necessary and effectively manage stakeholder expectations throughout. Dealing with working capital management and production of cash flow forecasts. Leading the team and be responsible for payroll, pension scheme, childcare vouchers, VAT and HMRC processes. Act as Data Protection Officer for the businesses Review negotiate and action important company compliances and other relevant account and company contracts, for example business insurances, foreign currency, credit intelligence and insurance. Accept invoices from suppliers and apply those sums to cost accounting Some invoices will be subject to CIS deductions and these need to be checked and verified with relevant certification sent to subcontractors Establish payment cycles, taking advantage of preferable terms when applicable Monitor and action account mailboxes, sending invoices to Office Manager or Department for approval when necessary Remit payments, retaining receipts of transactions including ad-hoc payments, foreign currency invoices and employee expenses Reconcile transactions and correct any discrepancies Assess invoices comparable to project, department, and company forecasts Evaluate performance and where possible, make suggestions to cut costs Develop relationships with suppliers Ensure that financial systems are robust, compliant and support current activities and future growth Audit accounts payable operations to make sure invoices and receipts are properly coded Verify and set-up new Supplier and Approved Subcontractor requests Verify and check Project handovers when required, setting up and agreeing credit limit if applicable. Key Role Requirements: Previous experience working in a similar role and/or industry for a minimum of two years Familiarity with construction contracts, payment terms and CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) considerations would be advantageous Strong technical knowledge of accounts principles and accounts payable operations Good understanding of bookkeeping and creating statutory and management accounts Ability to delegate and manage the work of others Detail-oriented with a mathematical mindset Understanding of account categories Able to produce and manage expenditure and budgets Experience of running annual audit Excellent written and verbal communication skills Excellent numerical skills Full valid UK driving licence IT literate Strong organisational and time management skills Personable, presentable and articulate Strong Commercial Awareness Ability to work within deadlines and cope under pressure Interpersonal and team-working skills Background working within construction would be preferred Knowledge of Sage Account Package preferred Educated to GCSE level or equivalent (to include English and Maths grade C) Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
