Technical Executive Assistant to the Director of Innovation Location 12 Endeavour Square, London, E20 1JN Division Strategy & Competition The Role The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is recruiting for an Executive Assistant for the Innovation Director's Office. Reporting to the Director, the focus of the role will be to support the Director and wider Senior Leadership team to deliver key projects, advise on a breadth of strategic and political matters, and act as an important link with teams across the FCA. This role is ideal for a resourceful, capable and energetic individual with relevant technical experience, who wishes to gain an insight into how the FCA operates in practice, and how decisions are taken at the most senior levels, both inside and outside the organisation. What does the role involve? What are the key responsibilities? Working alongside the Director's Personal Assistant and Operations Associate, the Senior Leadership team and more widely with the entire division and key contacts across the FCA, you will be responsible for: Working closely with and providing support to the Director and Senior Leadership team on a range of regulatory, strategic and corporate matters, as well as horizon scanning for potential future issues Line management of at least two Direct Reports i.e. the Director's Personal Assistant and the Operations Associate including day to day management, coaching and mentoring and performance management Drafting and/or reviewing papers and correspondence on behalf of the Director, such as Executive Committee papers, external correspondence, weekly updates and Board reports Co-ordinating production of a range of communications (including technical) on behalf of the Director, including speeches and presentations, the monthly report to the FCA board and the weekly update to our Executive Director Representing the Division at key meetings and steering groups, and overseeing / facilitating the implementation of the actions that arise Providing the Director with logistical support, including prioritising the Director's workload, and briefing them in advance of meetings or during fast developing events Overseeing the smooth running of the weekly Senior Leadership Meeting, and divisional wide presentations and functions, ensuring that content is appropriate, that decisions are reached wherever possible, and tracking the delivery of actions Ensuring an effective flow of information where issues are escalated promptly and appropriately, by staying up to date with the work of the Division and the wider FCA. This includes maintaining strong channels of communication with other Directors and their offices, Executive/Board and Panel secretariats, as well as other key contacts across the FCA Identifying opportunities and taking the initiative to improve the efficiency and smooth running of the Division and embedding the FCA values Attending meetings with or on behalf of the Director as required Working closely and maintaining a strong network with other Executive Assistants to share best practice and ensure consistency across the Division and the FCA, where appropriate What will the candidate get from the role? The successful candidate will gain a holistic view of the activities of the FCA, unique insight into the decisions and the external sensitivities that shape its work, and experience of working closely with people across the FCA. The role includes the opportunity to learn from and influence senior management, ultimately helping to shape the strategic direction of the FCA. The FCA's innovation activities are wide-ranging, involving significant interactions with domestic and international stakeholders within regulated institutions, technology companies, other regulators and policymakers, government, academia and charitable organisations. Skills/Experience Required Minimum We're a signatory to the Government's Disability Confident scheme. Proven technical knowledge of the domestic and international regulatory environment and FinTech/RegTech ecosystems Strong analytical skills and ability to rapidly assimilate new facts, understand complex issues, and convey their implications in a concise manner Proven strong organisational, prioritisation and time management skills Proven experience of complex diary management Essential Able to demonstrate credibility and capability to influence and constructively challenge staff across the FCA, including senior management Utmost discretion, integrity, and composure when dealing with sensitive and complex situations Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to establish, develop and maintain effective relationships with staff at all levels Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to flex your communication style and adapt the message to meet the needs of different audiences Self-starter working style, proactively seeking out solutions and opportunities Evidence of sound decision-making that inspires confidence in ability to use judgement to reach conclusions, and ability to work with minimal supervision Ability to manage a variety of competing tasks and issues under pressure, prioritising appropriately and escalating where necessary. Flexible and committed attitude, with the ability to adapt and react to changing circumstances, re-prioritising as necessary Rigorous attention to detail, takes pride in work, and ensures it is consistently of the highest standard An interest in, and knowledge of technological innovations within financial services (such as payments, cryptoassets, regtech, crowd-funding, machine learning) Ability to exercise judgement to identify when to escalate issues to the Director for decision and/or information Desirable A good understanding of the FCA's strategic priorities and regulatory challenges, along with its operational policies and procedures Awareness of key regulatory provisions applicable to areas of innovation covered by the division A strong understanding of the FCA's innovation activities and priorities About the FCA At the FCA, we're creating a fair and more resilient financial system.
