CREDIT RISK MANAGER - BUSINESS BANKING The most customer centric bank on the planet Welcome to a different kind of role and a different kind of banking We're Atom bank and we like to do things a little differently round here. We operate through a mobile app that allows you to do your banking wherever you are, whenever you want. As a digital bank, Atom presents heightened risks from a credit and fraud perspective. The Credit Risk team is responsible for retail credit risk management across the entire customer journey. The role holder will be an integral member of the Credit team and will play a key role in supporting the Board's objective of growing the lending portfolio whilst keeping credit and fraud losses within the firm's risk appetite. The role holder will specialise in credit risk for commercial lending, however they will also be responsible for supporting the development, implementation, testing and ongoing review of lending policy/parameters across all products. The role holder will be responsible for deploying risk grading tools and strategies within decisioning systems/underwriting platforms and for subsequent reporting, analysis, insight and adjustment of lending strategy in order to maximise the profitability of the lending portfolio and ensure the best possible journey for new and existing customers. The role will require a proactive individual capable of working on multiple tasks at the same time across different areas of expertise and manage multiple stakeholders across the business including products, operations, finance, compliance, data and systems. The individual will be comfortable interacting and presenting results to senior members of the Atom team and be happy to mentor more junior members of staff. As the team grows this role may involve line management of junior staff in the future. What will your 'typical' day look like.... (there's no 2 days the same in Atom):
• Provide credit risk input and advice to cross-functional project teams on the design of the end to end process for commercial lending products, covering secured/unsecured/ cash flow facilities
• Support and lead the development of all new business credit risk strategies including KYC/KYB, risk accept/refer/decline, indebtedness/serviceability, fraud and limit strategies to balance risk and reward to support the business`s growth agenda whilst maintaining control of credit quality and performance
• Support the development of grading tools and associated lending policies used in the risk assessment of all credit applications and existing customers
• Support the development of sophisticated loan serviceabilility models to assess ability to repay and ensure responsible lending
• Support the development, implementation, testing, monitoring and update of KYC/KYB and credit risk strategies into the firm's decision engine
• Produce specifications to support the development of credit risk requirements with external parties (e.g. Transunion, Experian, Dun & Bradstreet etc.)
• Support user acceptance testing and end to end testing of all credit risk strategies across all systems and products
• Produce specifications to support the design, development and implementation of credit risk MI to ensure the effective and ongoing monitoring of all scorecards and associated credit risk strategies
• Support the creation of summary MI for submission to Credit Committee
• Manage comprehensive, regular credit reporting and investigative analysis on new business and portfolio management and identify improvements to policies and procedures
• Provide insight to and set expectation for portfolio and segment trends through targeted analysis, forecasting and the development of regular MI
• Provide input to major business initiatives relating to IFRS9 and IRB credit models
• Provide support for the update of capital and recovery planning documents where required.
• Ensure that lending models and credit strategies are thoroughly and accurately documented
• Develop strong relationships with key business stakeholder teams
• Undertake ad hoc work as directed by line manager from time to time
• Act with integrity at all times and embrace the Bank's culture and values What do we need from you?
• Highly numerate, preferably backed by a strong quantitative degree
• Strong understanding of commercial banking products and market, particularly for SME segment
• A proven track record in credit risk management/ analytics, preferably with at least 5 years' experience in financial services
• Strong understanding of the full Credit Risk lifecycle
• Significant experience with data systems and infrastructures in a retail banking environment
• Detailed knowledge of commercial/consumer credit bureau data and its interpretation
• Familiarity with credit policies, rating systems and decision systems
• Detailed understanding of portfolio analytics
• Excellent data interpretation/interrogation skills, including data manipulation and analysis techniques, to create meaningful insight
• Experienced and proficient user of an analytical programming language e.g. R, SAS, SQL or similar
• Strong MS Office skills, in particular MS Excel
• Strong verbal and written communication, presentation and influencing skills, with the ability to adapt content and detail as appropriate for the intended audience
• The ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the business
• Ability to manage and prioritise multiple complex tasks with minimum supervision and strong attention to detail
• Proactive, hardworking, flexible and able to work under own initiative
• Understanding of current lending regulations such as Responsible Lending and Treating Customers Fairly
• Team player with a strong service orientation
• Ability, willingness and desire to work in a dynamic and fast paced environment What would we ideally like from you?
• Prior experience/knowledge of working for a start-up business and/or launching new products
• Significant experience of credit risk management across multiple product lines
• Experience of building risk grading systems
• Experience using credit risk decision systems such as Decision Strategy, Strategy Manager, BLAZE, TRIAD or similar for scoring/strategy implementation
• Familiarity with fraud prevention/detection systems and tools
• Confident, assertive and pragmatic approach with ability to exercise judgement and discretion where appropriate
