We are seeking to appoint an independent member to our Board of Governors. The members of the Board of Governors contribute a wide variety of skills and experience to the University, and are leaders in their own fields in either the private or public sector. The Board of Governors have an important strategic and monitoring role, with responsibility for ensuring that the performance of the University is assessed against objectives which the Board approves

To ensure the right balance of skills on the Board we are currently looking for either a specialist Legal Governor who has substantial Legal Experience at a senior level; a qualified lawyer; and an ability to support other Governors in the legal oversight of the University; or a specialist Finance Governor who has substantial Financial Experience at a senior level; an understanding of accounting, risk management and audit requirements and responsibilities at Board Level; and an ability to support other Governors in the financial oversight of the University. To be successful you must be able to fit in with our values, and have the ability to positively contribute to Board discussions.

Members of the Board are not paid, but are able to claim for travel and subsistence whilst on University business. Annually, there are 6 formal Board of Governors' meetings which follow lunch, 2 training sessions plus a more informal annual "Governors & Executive" meeting, In addition Governors also have the opportunity to attend external training/networking events which are optional and are also invited to University events (e.g. exhibitions and Private Views of end of year shows).
