About the role Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Payroll Team Manager to join our Employee Services Team in Newcastle. Employee Services is the HR and Payroll shared services section of the HR Enabling Function providing critical, continual administrative support to employees throughout their entire life-cycle; from posting job adverts like this one to attract potential candidates through to the day they leave the company and every aspect in between. Employee Services is made up of core administration teams and specialist teams who look after our 16,000 UK based employees across a range of roles in construction, utilities and Rail. What you'll be doing As a Payroll Team Manager , your main accountabilities will be as follows: Drive effective working of HR / Payroll Operational teams - to ensure consistent seamless deliver of end to end lifecycle process. Ensure effective control points and quality checks are carried out against defined payroll processes and all findings are acted upon. Build an effective team who work collaboratively to ensure seamless payroll service delivery Manage team Service Requests and ensure effective resolution is carried out every time within Service Level Agreements Be first point of contact for relevant service line escalations; investigating and resolving in line with escalations process Effective people management; including performance and absence management as well as investigations of any conduct issues. Conducting PDRs and Career Conversations Communicate regularly with stakeholders to support partnership working Ensure accurate and timely delivery of all payroll services every time Ensure compliance, control and governance at all times Provide data and reports as and when requested Drive and embed continuous improvement and documented processes and controls Develop and coach payroll team members improving departmental knowledge and expertise and enabling succession planning Produce monthly performance statistics for review with Service Delivery Manager Who we're looking for The following qualities/experience are essential: Relevant experience within a payroll environment. Strong organisational and planning skills, demonstrating accuracy and attention to detail. Demonstrable track record in setting up and running efficient payroll processes within a shared services environment Excellent customer service focus and manner, demonstrating a sense of urgency in resolving issues. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Ability to manage in a team environment, seeking the ideas of others and valuing differing perspectives. Ability to solve problems and make timely and informed decisions. Understanding of how and when to escalate issues. Flexible and adaptable with excellent ability to work cross functionally within an organisation Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills. The following qualities/experience are desirable: Knowledge of HRIS / Payroll experience.
