Nuclear fusion, the process that powers the Sun, can play a big part in our carbon-free energy future. The UK Atomic Energy Authority is the worlds` leading fusion research laboratory aiming to lead the commercial development of fusion power and related technology. We require an assistant management accountant to support one of our finance business partners with the provision of finance and accounting for the RACE program. RACE (Remote Applications in Challenging Environments) is at the forefront of developing fusion technology, and a solution provider and operator of robotics and autonomous systems. They create innovative machines that combine advanced control systems, intricate mechanical designs, state-of-the-art sensing, and extraordinary performance. Key areas of responsibility will include: -All of the month and year end transactional processing and adjustments -Assisting with understanding and explaining performance -Preparation of grant financial reports and supporting the audits of these grants and claims. -Accruals and prepayments calculations -Support with the preparation of the quarterly forecasts, annual budget and RACE business plan as necessary At UKAEA we strive to make everyone feel welcome and fully supported. Knowledge skills and experience Essential -Part-qualified accountant e.g. AAT, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent experience -Experience of using an accounting ERP system (Oracle, SAP, U4BW, Sage) -Proficient in excel and ability to handle numeric data accurately Desirable -Strong time management skills including the ability to prioritise the workload -Good written and oral communication skills -Good attention to detail -Experience of U4BW would be an advantage -Ability to work as a team player & under their own initiative -Able to interpret & present financial information to non-financial stakeholders Special requirements: Please note all employees working at the UK Atomic Energy Authority will be required to complete an online Disclosure Certificate application as part of their clearance - The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks will show the details of all current criminal convictions (convictions considered unspent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974) or will confirm that there are no such convictions.
