Assistant Accountant - with study support

Your new role

The main purpose of this position is to assist the Finance Manager in providing an effective management accounts service to this organisation.
Our client operates a Sage 200 accounting system and the post holder will be required to support the Finance
Manager, as part of a small finance team, in maintaining and developing an effective management accounting
system.

You will need to display a positive and enthusiastic approach in your work and work to the highest of standards
with excellent attention to detail. A flexible and resourceful person is required in order to also provide occasional
administrative support as may be required.

Ideally you will have started to study CIMA or ACCA or will start this as part of the role and support for this
training would be made available as appropriate.

You will be working directly for the Finance Manager, who in turn reports to the Head of Finance, and will play a
key role in this small finance team in helping provide a quality financial service for both internal and external
customers.

Key Duties

  • Preparation of timely and accurate monthly project accounts, claims, budgets and forecasts.
  • Preparation of 5 year business plans
  • Preparation of monthly profitability reporting and other similar reporting as required.
  • Preparation of cash flow forecasts.
  • Carrying out variance analysis
  • Maintenance and development of financial reports including KPIs.
  • Assisting with year end accounts and audit in preparation for external audit.
  • Assisting external auditors with queries and information requirements during audits.
  • Provision of support and training to staff regarding financial procedures and the interpretation of financial
  • information.
  • Efficient response to accounts queries from external customers and suppliers.
  • Pro-active support to the Finance Manager in the review and development of financial procedures and
  • reporting.
  • Identification and undertaking of learning and development opportunities agreed for the role.
  • Occasional cover for Finance Assistant duties to cover sickness/holidays.
  • Any other duties as required by the Finance Manager.


What you'll need to succeed

GCSE Mathematics and English Grade A - C, or equivalent and AAT Level 4 or equivalent - A Level/ GNVQ
administration or equivalent,

Minimum of 3 years computerised accounts processing experience based in a business or educational
environment.

  • Experience of preparing monthly project claims.
  • Experience of preparing and monitoring project forecasts.
  • Experience of cash flow preparation.
  • Minimum of 1 years experience of contributing to development of accounts systems/ processes/ reporting.
  • Ability to maintain attention to detail while working to deadlines and managing a varied workload
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with an ability to interact effectively with a wide range of
  • internal and external stakeholders
  • A mature, positive and enthusiastic manner
  • Competent IT skills including Sage, MS office and a willingness to embrace new technologies
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • An appreciation of the education sector will be advantageous
