Finance Graduate Scheme 2020

Welcome to EDF Energy and welcome to Generation Electric!

We're proud to be Europe’s largest generator of sustainable, low carbon energy; committed to rolling out Electric mobility as standard, self-sufficiency and ownership of energy consumption through smart, innovative products which help decarbonise homes & businesses. We believe that, together, we can create a cleaner, low-carbon future.

Introducing Generation Electric: They are leading a quiet revolution shaping the future of sustainable living and working through low carbon electricity.  They are switching to low carbon energy sources, storing it in their homes and then selling it back to the grid and using electricity to power their movement. They are the pioneers of a better, more sustainable future for our planet.

And, at the forefront of the innovations supporting Generation Electric you’ll find all of us: the people of EDF Energy

Take your next step and join us.  We believe that generating and supplying electricity isn’t just about power, it’s about the power to transform lives and futures.

The Opportunity:

Our 3-year Finance Graduate Programme will give you all the preparation needed for a rewarding finance career at the pinnacle of the energy sector – including supporting your studies to gain a chartered accounting qualification with the world’s largest professional body of management accountants, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (“CIMA”).

The Training Programme:

Following a week-long induction with graduates from all of our schemes at our state of the art facility, Cannington Court (Somerset) in September 2020, you’ll start your journey with us as you work your way through a series of 1-year long job rotations, building a well-rounded understanding of finance at EDF Energy, whilst developing extensive knowledge of how the energy market and industry operates. As a fully integrated energy company, EDF Energy offers you the unique opportunity to undertake roles in the context of Operational Generation Assets all the way through to the Sale of Energy to Residential and Business Customers.

The rotational nature of the scheme means that you’ll need to be flexible with location and should expect to move between our UK offices throughout your 3 years. Each graduate will have a unique experience on the programme and placements are based on business need. An example of a 3-year rotation could see you spending your first year at our Finance Centre of Excellence in East Kilbride, followed by a year in our Customer Operations Centre in Croydon, before completing your final year with Nuclear Development at Hinkley Point C in Somerset - Europe’s largest construction project.

As well as the ‘on the role’ finance training that you’ll receive, you will also undertake a formal Professional Skills Training programme with the rest of the commercial graduate community. This includes training in Communication and Commercial Awareness skills, Presenting with Confidence, Influencing and Negotiating, as well as other Leadership and Project Management skills.

You’ll have all the financial and study leave support you need to study for the CIMA qualification and the rotational nature of the placements will allow you to cover the practical requirements of your qualification with ease.

You won’t be on your own during this journey as you’ll have the support of your line manager, a recent graduate buddy and a career manager throughout the scheme. Our Young Professionals (“YP”) Network will also welcome you to their network where they provide an effective platform to learn, lead and connect.  It’s a good opportunity for you to knowledge share with fellow graduates and trainees from our other Early Careers schemes.  The YP Network aims to foster future leaders of EDF Energy.

Wherever you go, you can expect real work from the word go – including forecasting and budgeting activities, examining operating costs, getting involved in major projects and preparing reports for senior leadership.

The combination of experience, exposure and training that you’ll get during the scheme will prepare you to become far more than just an accountant. At the end of the 3-year programme, you should have gained the business experience and professional skills to apply to one of many exciting full-time finance roles available at EDF Energy.

The Future:

Post scheme, you’ll continue to be supported to develop your skills with the support of your career manager and with the right ambition you could expect to be in a managerial or leadership role within a few years.

The Skills:

  • 2:1 Bachelor’s Degree or a 2:2 Postgraduate Degree (or expected) preferably in Finance/Accounting, Business, Maths or other numerical subject
  • Ambition to become a CIMA qualified accountant and to work in a finance role
  • Flexible and enthusiastic team player
  • Eager to learn and develop your skills
  • Flexibility to relocate

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Starting salary of £27,500 and regular pay reviews
  • 25 days’ annual leave
  • Pension scheme
  • Annual performance bonus
  • Flexible benefits package
  • Wellbeing and support services
  • Relocation support for moving between attachments and into a new role after the programme.
