The purpose of this role is to support in the production of financial information for wider business analysis and support financial control to ensure the day to day operations of the Finance team are effective and appropriate to meet the business needs for all information users. To assist in the timely preparation of financial information to allow the Finance team to delight the business and provide quick considered responses on all matters. Management of budgetary process and providing analysis against budget in support of the business partnering objective. To drive the team forward on best practice of both operational activities and control environment to assist the achievement of the team goal of a "world class finance function". We want someone who is going to ensure that good practice is maintained throughout the team and to ensure that all regulatory information is submitted in a timely manner in adherence to deadlines. To provide support to the Management Accountant and Finance & Innovation Director in achieving the team objectives and undertaking ad hoc work as required. Commercial/Financial To assist in developing a world class finance function, fully operational and delivering at all times. Support accountability and responsibility for the directorate budgets, ensuring that headcount and flexible spend deliver against budget Support preparation of the financial ledgers to Trial Balance level, ensuring that good practice is undertaken and reconciliations of each cycle are performed and accurate. Support preparation of the monthly board reporting pack in a timely manner and identification & understanding of material variances and developing trends. Preparation of detailed analytical work to ensure that the Director of Finance and Directorates are versed in the activities within each area to improve understanding of the wider business. Support on the annual budget for review and maintenance of the planned re-forecasts during the year. Provide overview function to the financial cycles to ensure the correct level of "checks and balances" are in place, operational and effective. Work with Directorates to ensure that our maximum long term "financial effectiveness" is achieved. Any adhoc tasks as required by the Director of Finance. Systems Development/Delivery Automate (Financial) systems to manage and influence the business towards becoming a better partner to its customers, suppliers, employees, business partners and stakeholders. Escalate/manage (Financial) systems so that (Financial) issues and risks that will impact the business are easily highlighted to the Director of Finance. Ensure that the Finance team are as one with IT and systems as a matter of course and continuously use your system skills to maximise efficiencies and quality/timeliness of information. Regulatory Work Undertaking all regulatory work of the department including quarterly VAT return submissions and monthly EC sales list and Intrastat returns. Manage the submission of foreign country VAT return submissions by ensuring the information is passed in a timely manner and that the payments are accurately recorded on the financial ledgers Desirable Experience Bookkeeping skills Excellent communication skills Great interpersonal skills Challenging attitude Self - discipline Good team working skills IT skills: Excel, BACS, Sage
