Tax Senior Reports to: Tax Manager Summary of role: The Business Tax Senior's primary focus is to manage the on-going internal preparation of the annual UK and/or US tax compliance of a portfolio of clients, while maintaining high levels of client service by acting as the day-to-day primary contact and acting as a conduit between the prepare team and the tax managers. A Business Tax Senior must be comfortable speaking with clients both over the phone and over email, able to organise and maintain confidential client documents and remain proactive with regards to up-coming deadlines, both internal and external. A Business Tax Senior is expected to hold a level of understanding of both US & UK Corporate, Partnership and Owner Managed Business tax concepts and a keen understanding of the interactions of both tax systems through application of the UK/US Double Tax Treaty. Duties: A Tax Senior will be expected to perform any of the following tasks: Maintain an up-to-date client list: taking initial responsibility for completion of the compliance process including delegating work and identify possible issues with their client list and discuss such issues with the appropriate lead; Demonstrate good working knowledge of clients; communicate with the management group to ensure completion of work, and develop relationships with allocated clients; Assist with the preparation of complex or large structure UK and/or US corporate tax filings As projects arise, Tax Seniors should look to work on consultancy and research projects with senior staff; As reviewers, it is vital that Tax Seniors have up to date technical knowledge and are able to apply this to their work; Tax Seniors should be able to identify any additional internal training sessions they may benefit from attending, or any which should be added to the training offering; Liaise with third party professionals including solicitors, other accountants, tax advisers and independent financial advisers; Develop people manager responsibilities; and Other duties as required. Person Specification: The job holder will be a qualified member of the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) and preferably qualified to practice US tax i.e. an Enrolled Agent (EA) or CPA. A CTA qualified individual is desirable but not compulsory. They can work well under pressure. They are well organised. Proven Experience: They can demonstrate they have gained tax experience and operated at a similar level within a practice; Experience of providing a high standard of service to clients both face to face and over the telephone/email. Experience of dealing with the full range of client tax requirements; Experience of working with US/UK accounting and tax; and Experienced in preparing and reviewing increasingly complex US and/or UK tax returns. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of UK & US company and partnership taxation as well as personal taxation is desirable Knowledge of tax planning advice is desirable Organised and analytical approach An eye for detail and accuracy Excellent verbal and written communication skills Problem solving skills - able to work on own initiative Highly numerical and able to interpret financial data Sound IT skills Other Attributes: Keen to develop professional taxation knowledge and understanding Looking to develop and progress to Tax Assistant Manager and beyond Keen to undertake professional development such as the Chartered Institute of Taxation, if not already obtained.
