Job Details

Accounting for International Development (AfID) offers volunteer assignments for accountants and auditors across the UK, Africa, Asia & South America including Trustee/Treasurer roles and financial capacity building placements from 2 to 12 weeks.

___________________________________________________

Our partner creates and distributes educational films raising awareness about a range of health, community development and environmental issues.

Additionally, they use film to give local communities a voice; they train individuals in filmmaking techniques, offering them the opportunity to identify, address and disseminate information about crucial issues affecting their communities.

They are seeking to recruit a Treasurer to take the place of the existing incumbent who is due to retire in December. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • The oversight of the finances of the charity, ensuring that the charity has effective financial measures, controls and procedures in place; and that they are meeting their statutory and tax compliance requirements.
  • Preparing the monthly management accounts, the annual accounts & budgets
  • Reporting to the Board of Trustees at regular intervals about the financial position of the charity.

This is quite a hands on opportunity for an experienced accountant / finance professional to provide financial oversight and governance to a small organisation with an international focus. As this is quite an involved role, they anticipate that it will require a commitment of approximately 10 hours per month for the accounting, financial management & reporting, and an additional 2-3 hours per month if also doing the bookkeeping. There will be around 10 meetings (board meetings, management meetings and ad hoc strategy days) a year.

Company

Accounting for International Development (A f I D) offers accountants the opportunity to use their skills to make a genuine difference as volunteers and to gain invaluable hands-on overseas experience in the International Development sector.  Tailored volunteer assignments of 2 to 12 weeks form part of an ongoing strategy to build the financial management capacity and long term sustainability of small community based charities across Africa, Asia and South America. Our partners which include street kid centres, health clinics and rural schools are doing amazing work to tackle extreme poverty and inequality in their communities but are unable to access vital professional services. A f I D is now supporting almost grassroots charities in over 50 countries across Africa, Asia and South America and are keen to talk to more accountants willing to share their invaluable skills and experience. In only ten years we are pleased to announce the placement of our 1000th  volunteer. This will take the total hours of pro-bono financial management coaching by our volunteers to over 200,000. An extraordinary effort, that assisted the development, and in some cases survival, of some fantastic organisations. A f I D is a double award winning social enterprise supported by UnLtd & The Millennium Awards Trust (Funded by the National Lottery).
