You'll do more than the expected. You'll do the unexpected. A great opportunity exists for a skilled Government Affairs professional to take on a key role in driving American Express' Government Affairs agenda in the European region. He/she will be responsible for leading the Company's engagement with policymakers and other stakeholders in a number of countries, with initial focus on Benelux, the Nordics, the Baltic states and other markets in northern Europe. Experience in working in payment regulation or engaging policymakers would be an asset, as would relevant language skills. He/she will also be expected to become a subject matter expert in some policy areas, to provide more general support on advocacy strategy in the wider region. The position will also provide the opportunity for engagement in non-EU jurisdictions in the Middle East and Africa region.The role reports to the Vice President for EMEA Government Affairs and will involve collaboration with the wider Government Affairs team and colleagues from other functions. Given the pace of change in payments, the successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate a clear track record of driving files proactively and effectively. Key

Responsibilities:
Develop policy positions on key issues and make them relevant and compelling to stakeholders by conducting research, preparing communication materials, hosting events, etc. Build relationships with policymakers, including officials, Parliamentarians and the policy and strategy teams of regulatory bodies. Build relationships with key third parties who are relevant to the policymaking process, including consumer groups, merchant and business groups and other actors related to payments and financial regulation.Monitor developments in national policy related to payments and other areas which may impact the American Express business.Coordinate with local management, legal and public relations colleagues. Manage external agencies which support American Express on Government Affairs in a number of key markets.Offer of employment with American Express is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background verification check, subject to applicable laws and regulations.
