Part-time Bookkeeper, growing accounts practice, heart of St Albans, c.15-20 hours, 3-5 days, £28-32k pro rata, depending on experience, free parking on site, friendly supportive learning environment and study support consideration. (Job Ref: CL2398) Our Client If you're an experienced Bookkeeper seeking to develop new skills and progress your career in a local, friendly accounts practice then this could be the role you've been seeking. Our client specialises in small businesses and is considered a trusted business partner by their clients who are largely SMEs and start ups. The Director is supportive yet hands-off, fostering a sense of fulfilment, as people are trusted to manage their own work. The Role Working within their small team you will gain exposure to a number of different areas of accounts and develop some excellent experience. It is expected the role will involve 80% bookkeeping and 20% payroll. Currently a team of 2 which they are now looking to supplement as the business is growing. Key Responsibilities will include:
• Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping in particular sales/purchase ledger and bank reconciliation
• Ability to prepare accounts on Excel
• Assist in preparing accounts for small companies (sole traders, partnerships, Ltd companies)
• Assist with the preparation of monthly/quarterly/yearly management account for clients
• Assisting with payroll duties
• Resolving queries with clients
• Maintain regular contact with clients
• Prepare and submit VAT returns
• Assist in preparing personal tax returns
• Assisting in developing company policies and procedures
• Other ad hoc and office administrative tasks as required. The Candidate The ideal candidate would have worked in an accountancy practice (or small professional services business) and be numerate. You will be enthusiastic, hard-working, be able to work on your own initiative and manage to get work completed to deadlines. You will enjoy being in control and happy to take the lead in introducing new initiatives.
• The successful candidate will need to have a number of years' experience with strong bookkeeping and payroll experience and excellent communication skills, adapting to the working styles of different clients
• You will also need to be confident, reliable, and enthusiastic with a good sense of humour.
• Knowledge of Xero is essential and they also use Moneysoft but training can be given on this.
• Relevant bookkeeping qualification such as AAT or QBE Terms As our client is seeking to grow their team they are offering a part-time role for c.15-20 hours per week and this could be spread over 3-5 days. Less hours can also be considered for the right person. They are very family friendly and open to flexible working arrangements during school holidays, for example banking hours during busy periods. A salary of c.£28-32K pro rata is on offer. The role is based in the heart of St Albans and free parking is available. Annual leave is 20 days plus bank holidays pro rata and they have an auto-enrolment pension scheme. They will also consider support for further training and development.
