The principal objective of the National Audit Office (NAO) is to support Parliament to hold government to account and improve public services. The NAO provides authoritative assurance and advice to Parliament about public spending though a range of work. This includes financial audit of government, which is key to accountability and to improving financial management, and major investigations into the Value for Money of government programmes and projects. 2018-19 has been a year marked by unprecedented change in our external environment. Exiting the EU continues to provide the civil service with a unique set of challenges, which have to be addressed in a context marked by high levels of uncertainty. Despite this, we anticipate there will be an ongoing and significant demand for our work, to examine how departments are preparing for EU exit and the arrangements that are put in place after we leave. We are looking to appoint a high quality, ACA qualified, corporate leader who has significant experience of leading the delivery of financial audits, providing dynamic and visible leadership to the full spectrum of our work, to our people and our organisation. Your contribution will add value beyond the audit track record that you will bring, enabling you to engage effectively with senior stakeholders both internally and externally, driving performance and enabling continuous improvement. Your experience of operating at this senior board level is what will set you apart and if you can demonstrate the insight and impact to add value to our work, to work in a close collaborative team, and to take our people with you, then we want to hear from you. The NAO is committed to diversity and inclusion. Whilst we welcome applications from all candidates who can meet the requirements, we particularly encourage applications from individuals from black and minority ethnic backgrounds and from women, who are under-represented at senior levels. For full details of the role, including the skills and capabilities required, please refer to the job description attached below. Final interviews are expected to be held in September.
