The primary purpose of the Risk & Internal Control Manager is to provide strategic advice to the company and Divisional Executive Teams regarding the identification, assessment, understanding and management of all risks present within the business activities of the company's Energy Supply Business, by designing, developing, implementing and leading a best in class Risk Management and Internal Control function. In addition, the role is accountable for the development, implementation and ongoing management of a comprehensive suite of retail limits and divisional risk management policies and procedures to ensure that retail market risks are managed within approved bounds, in line with the agreed risk appetite, and in conformance with the company's risk policies and procedures. Main Responsibilities/Duties Include: The role holder acts as the primary point of contact for the UK Risk function in, and is a mandatory sign off authority for, the following commitment activities: financial commitments requiring Divisional Commitment Committees; bespoke new product launch proposals; all new or amended Energy Policies. Managing, preparing, presenting and minuting the monthly Energy Risk Management Committee. Accountable for maintaining relationships and instrumental in leading commercial negotiations with insurers, insurance brokers and Credit Reference Agencies. Lead local point of contact and coordinator for control audits by external auditors and for all internal audits. Accountable for delivering adequate internal control through the INCOME framework, including overseeing the documentation and self-assessment of all key controls within the business, together with acting as the sole or joint Business Process Owner for a wide range of control activities. Designing, implementing and managing an audit program for Enterprise Third Party Intermediary (TPI) partners. Responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining the Business Continuity Plan for the Homes and Enterprise division. Initiating and managing flash audits/investigations in response to high impact events and for providing independent reviews ("second regard") on any business activity as requested by the divisional Executive Team. Ownership of and full operational management responsibility for all market risk-related control activities. Full operational management responsibility for the company credit policy and associated risk processes required to manage retail sales activities with an annual turnover of £1.4bn. Designing, developing, providing and communicating management reports relating to all relevant risks to appropriate internal and Group stakeholders on a timely basis (including senior managers at sector, divisional, UK and Group level) Establishing and maintaining operational and financial risk management tools for use in supporting the development and implementation of relevant risk metrics & key performance indicators. Assisting management in identifying, quantifying and managing risk using applicable quantitative, qualitative, operational and financial risk management tools. Advising on hedging and trading strategy decisions that affect the risk position of the retail business. Ensuring compliance with Global and local market, credit, operational, legal and regulatory risk management policies. Reviewing pricing methodologies and models for compliance with group policy. Providing information for financial reporting purposes e.g. IAS39. Contributing to the development of control activities in line with best practice in data protection, including maintaining the relationship with the UK Data Protection Officer and direct line management of the Divisional Local Data Protection Officer. Knowledge and skills: Proven background in end-to-end Risk Management within a large multi-national business. Conscientious, practical approach, with strong problem-solving skills Able to see the commercial consequences of decisions - thinks about and plans for positive commercial impact Highly numerate with strong quantitative skills Excellent communication skills - both verbally and in writing Strong interpersonal and relationship-management skills, able to influence and persuade others and deliver success through others Has the personal stature and capability to influence a broad range of people; including key decision makers Able to manage conflicting and demanding priorities, with excellent organisational skills Advanced Microsoft Excel skills essential, with proven ability to capitalise on emergent technologies Experience: Essential; experience of: Working in a wholesale and Retail energy trading environment Commodities risk management, including power and gas Significant experience of credit management in a relevant working environment Business partnering and reporting to senior executives. Managing, motivating and developing people Budget management Desirable; experience of: Commodities trading Credit or market risk management Internal Control Working within the company and demonstrable detailed knowledge and understanding of the company and Group policies and governance arrangements, including the INCOME framework. Development and roll-out of policies and procedures Trading and risk management systems and associated applications VAR and/or other risk metrics Working in a regulatory compliance oversight capacity within a domestic supply environment Consumer protection laws and regulations including supply licence conditions including: anti money laundering, KYC, Financial Conduct Authority regulations, Data Protection, PECR and other relevant standards. Qualifications: Essential: Honours degree or equivalent in an analytically focused discipline Desirable Post graduate qualifications in Finance/Management/Risk Management
