Hays Accountancy and Finance are recruiting exclusively on behalf of the National Museums Cultra Holywood for a newly created role of Finance Governance Manager. This position will play a key leadership role within the finance team and across the organisation.

The role will support the Head of Finance and Income Generation by assisting in the management of the quality and effectiveness of the organisation's finance and governance affairs. National Museums NI are constantly review its strategy and operations to ensure that it continues to deliver maximum social and economic impact to improve the lives of the people who live, work, learn in and visit Northern Ireland.

Your new role

The post holder will have management responsibility for finance systems, preparation of the financial statements, providing management accounts across the organisation payroll and pensions, procurement and liaising with internal and external audit.

The Finance and Governance Manager works closely with the Chief Operating Officer, the Head of Finance and Income Generation, the Sponsoring body (the Department for Communities), Audit & Risk Assurance Committee, internal business partners, stakeholder organisations and it is therefore imperative that effective working relationships are developed and fostered.

What you'll need to succeed

Successfully completed the professional examinations and be a full, current member of one of the professional bodies below:

  • The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland;
  • The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Scotland;
  • The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales;
  • The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants;
  • The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants;
  • The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy;
  • The Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland

  • Have a minimum of three years' post qualification practical experience in each of the following areas:

  • Preparation of financial statements in accordance with UK Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures (GAAP) and/or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

  • Preparation of end of year accounts.

  • Management accounting and costing systems, and financial performance reporting systems.

  • Preparing, managing and monitoring budgets and the allocation of resources.

  • Strategic Planning and Decision Support.

  • Production of reports for management/committees.

  • Have a minimum of three years' experience of leading, managing and motivating staff to achieve individual and team objectives.

  • Have at least three years' post qualification experience of working within a public sector environment to include managing public money and an understanding of the public sector governance, law and its applicability to an organisation such as National Museums NI.

  • Be able to demonstrate experience of delivering in a business partnering role, supporting a range of internal and external stakeholders, providing support around a range of finance services.


Desirable Criteria

Please note that in the event of a large number of applications, that the desirable criteria will be used as part of the shortlisting process.

Experience in the preparation of annual accounts for an organisation with a turnover of at least £10m

Experience of best practice on public sector governance and all relevant Department of Finance (DoF) guidance.
