The Markets Directorate promotes monetary and financial stability by leading the Bank's market operations, and by using our presence, expertise and influence in financial markets to inform and shape the Bank's policy decisions and priorities.The Financial Risk Management Division (FRMD) is responsible for managing the financial risks faced by the Bank in its market operations, whether on behalf of the government or its own account. This includes: Determining and managing how much risk to take in the Bank's market operationsManaging risks in the UK's official foreign currency reservesProviding input into policy design so that the Bank can achieve monetary and financial stability.This role is within the Quantitative Risk Analytics (QRA) Hub. We work alongside the Credit, Traded Markets, and Collateral Risk Management teams in FRMD to quantify and manage financial risks. We design, maintain and improve risk and haircut methodologies, and conduct analysis and research to enable better understanding of financial risks faced by the organisation. We act as a centre of analytical expertise in the division providing technical advice and building methodology tools to support policy development. Job DescriptionAs an experienced member of the division you will: Set strategic priorities for the team and influence the methodology review agenda Drive and deliver methodology improvements to the Bank's risk management modelsLead the team to produce high quality briefings or methodology papers and present to Senior Committees Liaise with the Bank's second line risk management division for the validation and challenge of new models and methodologies, and with technical experts across the wider organisation, to drive improvements in FRMD's own methodologiesMentor and support staff in their developmentThe role includes line management responsibilities for 2-3 member of staff. Essential requirements for the role:Recognised academic qualification(s) in a quantitative subject and MSc level knowledge (or equivalent professional qualification) in financial mathematics, statistics, or econometricsGood knowledge of modelling techniques, in particular methods used for market or credit risk measurementProven track record of leading and delivering analytical projects Excellent organisational and prioritisation skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsDesirable skills:Proficiency in a programming language (preferably R, Python or Matlab) Experience in managing small teams and an interest in developing others Ability to build collaborative relationships and influence at senior levels Qualifications We anonymise applications so hiring managers will not be able to see your personal information, your original CV or any covering letters when reviewing your submission.
