Company

It all started with a fiver. That was how much Robert Dyas had to invest in his new business when he emigrated from County Meath in Ireland. The first shop was set up in London in 1872 and by the time of his death at the age of 66 the enterprising Robert had established 18 stores and a strong family business.

The Company survived the turmoil of two world wars and economic depression.  After losing 18 of their 26 shops in the blitz, the Dyas family rebuilt the business and by 1965 the expansion of the Company was well under way, with progressively larger shops being opened to support a major expansion of our product range.

The turn of the 21st Century saw Robert Dyas undergo another expansion programme, opening stores across the South of England and developing the business to meet modern customer needs. Theo Paphitis, who has always been passionate about the brand, acquired the business in July 2012 and has led a period of significant investment, including new stores, store refurbishments, a strong online presence and a brand new distribution centre which opened in 2015. Under Theo’s guidance an exciting new chapter of the Robert Dyas story is underway.

Although we’ve changed over the years, one thing that remains consistent is our commitment to excellent customer service. That has been in place since the very first store opened and at Robert Dyas, we’re proud to continue and build upon this reputation and heritage.
