The Organisation The Port of Milford Haven is the UK's top energy port and Wales' busiest port, handling around 20% of Britain's seaborne trade in oil and gas. Widely recognized, as the energy capital of the UK, the Port, along with the cluster of energy-related businesses along the Waterway, is a key driver of economic activity in Pembrokeshire and employs a workforce of c.180 and reported a £22.1m turnover for the year ended December 2018. Milford Haven Port Authority (The Port) is an independent statutory entity created by an Act of Parliament. As a Trust Port, the Port does not have shareholders and as such does not pay dividends, instead all profit is retained and is available for re-investment into the business. The Port and its subsidiaries operate on a commercial basis in competition with other Ports. It charges port fees for providing services to Clients across cargo vessels, ferry services and commercial fishing, at principal terminals on the Milford Haven Waterway, but it also has facilities at sites in Milford Haven and Pembroke Dock. It is financed through retained profits and conventional bank lending. The Port has embarked on two significant multi-million-pound regeneration projects: Milford Waterfront Waterfront aims to revitalise the marina and docks into a vibrant destination of leisure, retail and dining. Pembroke Dock Marine aims to reposition Pembroke Dock as a marine renewable energy development and testing centre of excellence. The Opportunity This is an excellent opportunity for a highly Commercial CFO seeking a broad remit, with a diverse- activity and forward-thinking business, working as an Executive Board member and as part of the Senior Management team. The CFO will support the growth plans for the Port, whilst leading the financial strategy, including:
• Lead larger scale commercial opportunities from 'cradle to grave'
• Guiding the business through its growth objectives with effective stakeholder relationship management
• Supporting organisation development and championing our core values
• Lead responsibility for ensuring the Port maintains high standards of corporate governance The Candidate We are looking for a Qualified Accountant with a strong career track record of success, delivery and progression throughout. The ideal candidate will be either an experienced Finance Director/CFO of a comparable scale or larger business, or a Finance leader working as at least a number 2 level (with considerable remit and responsibility) in a significant organisation. Not only will the candidate have to demonstrate a professional finance and accountancy technical background, we are also looking for a highly commercial candidate, who can evidence the successful delivery of commercial projects. A property or infrastructure background would be advantageous but is not essential. As part of the senior leadership team, the CFO will be responsible for developing and fostering a culture where people feel valued and are motivated to perform. We are looking for a candidate with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who is capable of forging strong relationships, both internally and externally.
