Overall job purpose The National Tax department provides technical and operational support to the firm's tax faculty, which comprises approximately 100 partners and 650 other staff, covering the range of UK taxes on which the firm advises. The National Tax technical and operations assistant manager reports to the National Head of Tax Operations and also works closely with the National Head of Tax Technical, the National Tax technical officers and the firm's tax service line heads and tax specialist groups. Responsibilities The principal responsibility of the National Tax technical and operations assistant manager is to support the work of the National Tax department by: supporting the National Head of Tax Operations in the delivery of the firm's national tax strategy, ensuring that the client facing teams are equipped with the knowledge and tools required to offer excellent client service delivery; and assisting the National Head of Tax Technical and National Tax technical officers in providing support to the tax faculty and issuing appropriate internal technical updates, guidance and client facing materials etc on technical issues that impact the firm's business and clients. Detailed responsibilities include the following. Providing specific operational and technical support and guidance on issues identified by the firm's tax partners and staff, National Tax and specialist groups as requiring consideration on a proactive (in advance of legislative changes, case law etc) or reactive basis. This role may require the National Tax technical and operations assistant manager to work in close partnership with the specialist groups or other teams or groups within the tax faculty and the wider firm, attending meetings and calls as appropriate. Project managing, preparing and delivering certain operational reports to senior stakeholders. Taking responsibility for developing and driving delivery of certain operational and technical projects, keeping stakeholders apprised as appropriate. Spotting opportunities to improve the efficiency of operational processes and procedures, taking account of operational and technical risks and commercial factors, and discussing options with suitable colleagues with a view to agreeing and implementing appropriate changes. Contributing to the preparation of clear and appropriately concise tax briefings, updates and other business development and delivery support materials for clients and targets, including taking responsibility for organising, coordinating, writing, reviewing and dissemination of such materials as required. Supporting the National Tax team in reviewing and updating the firm's external tax web pages, tax faculty intranet site and tax operations manual, including: maintaining and developing the firm's various tax technical information resources, including the tax knowledgebase; maintaining and recording the firm's operational policies on tax matters, as documented in the firm's tax operations manual; maintaining and updating standard documents and tax compliance and advisory delivery and business development material as and when requested. Assist National Tax technical officers with technical research to assist in providing responses to client related technical queries, ensuring discussions and advice provided are recorded and shared as appropriate. Personal and professional qualities A suitable technical qualification is preferred but not essential. Requirements for the role The ability to communicate clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences, ranging from the technically advanced to non-tax specialists.
