Finance protects the Morgan Stanley franchise by serving as guardian of the Firm's books and records, and by contributing to Firmwide risk management and risk reduction. This division maintains relationships with Morgan Stanley's various industry and government regulators, and also serves as the conduit of financial information to the outside investment community. Finance plays a critical role as advisor to Morgan Stanley's various businesses and its senior management team.Team ProfileThe Financial Control Group (FCG) is responsible for overseeing the accounting and financial and regulatory reporting for the Firm. FCG prepares external financial reports for public filings and regulators. For internal reporting FCG, along with Financial Planning and Analysis (FPA), summarizes, plans and forecasts the organisations financial position, including income statements, balance sheets, and analyses of future revenues, expenses and earnings. FCG is comprised of Business Unit Controllers, Infrastructure Controllers, Accounting, Regulatory and Reporting groups, and Valuation Review.The European Equity Management Reporting team is looking for a motivated and confident candidate to take on a role with a range of interesting and diverse tasks that all support The Equities Business Unit. The role will have varied deliverables driven by ad-hoc client requests and the candidate will be expected to understand what the data being produced means from a business perspective. There is significant interaction with the Equities Business Unit COO team, and there is a team in Budapest who perform the majority of the regular production and assist where possible with ad-hoc requests.Management Reporting primarily focuses on combined revenues and expenses reporting (PBTs) and drills into all of the Firms Expense categories. Reports are cut by desks, sales teams and countries. A significant range of reports are produced monthly and weekly which are consumed by senior audiences for which the candidate would be expected to help oversee the production in Budapest and assist in providing commentary to the desk, including running reports and investigation where required. The team presents a monthly view of the financials to a senior desk audience. There is a significant volume of data provided and the desk demands high performance in terms of accuracy and commentary.The team also consolidates and summarises revenue performance on a monthly basis for the PRA and various board packs. The candidate would be expected to review commentary provided by business unit controllers and summaries into meaningful stories with a high degree of accuracy.The UK Bank Levy is a significant charge to the business, and while the external calculation lies with Legal Entity controllers, the team perform a significant amount of work to ensure that it is allocated accurately and fairly across business units. This process requires a confidence in dealing with complex calculations and multiple data sources.Primary Responsibilities- Review of weekly and monthly business reports and analytics- Responding to ad-hoc reporting requests as requested by the Business Unit from desk heads and COOs.- Country Reporting production of suite of Excel reports- Input into the quarterly EBA FinRep reporting- Calculation of UK Bank Levy Allocations across ISG Business Units- Writing of Monthly/Quarterly commentary for a variety of senior/regulatory audiences QualificationsSkills required - Recognised accounting qualification, or currently studying- Banking or relevant finance / management reporting experience- Strong communicator and confidence to deal with people across all levels of management- The ability to work to tight deadlines- Good analytical and problem solving skills- Good team skills - ability to work effectively with colleagues in multiple locations to meet a common goal- Proficient Excel skillsMorgan Stanley is an equal opportunities employer.
