Trainee Management Accountant (Reporting & Information Analyst) 

About the role 

Are you a Finance /Business/Maths Graduate or Trainee with some accounts experience?

A day in the life of… 

We make delicious salad meals, fruit pots, coleslaw, potato salad, bagged salads and leafy salad bowls across our 4 manufacturing sites. Our products are stocked by leading Retail supermarkets & popular restaurant chains, consumed by millions of customers in the UK. So, you may well have eaten something made by us! 

The beginning of your career is a crucial time and will shape your future. Our Reporting and Information Manager Sarah understands this and has successfully coached and developed many people throughout her career. Will you be the next person that Sarah develops? 

Your natural attention to detail and accurate analytical skills are key to the success of this role, so you could be a Graduate or have some accounts experience. 

Sarah manages our Reporting & Information team, they all have a good sense of humour and are part of the wider finance and corporate finance teams of over 20 people. 

You will get involved in a variety of tasks including:

 PERIOD END 

  • Preparation of period end management accounts.

  • Compile reporting packs for one main trader (NWF) + smaller entities.

  • To include P&L, balance sheet, cashflow + supplementary schedules.

  • Preparation of period end overheads by function.

  • To include period end meetings with relevant budget holder.

  • Analysis of period position vs budget with variance commentary.

  • Preparation of period end balance sheet reconciliations.

  • Review period end balance sheet reconciliations. 

WEEKLY 

  • Support the production of NWF “Weekly P&L”.

  • To include preparation/analysis of supporting schedules that feed into the NWF “Weekly P&L” – published to the wider business each week.

  • The “Weekly P&L” includes areas such as raw material, distribution, labour and waste variances as well detailed sales and margin analysis. 

VAT, INTRASTAT & ONS 

  • Preparation and review of monthly returns. 

PAYROLL ACCOUNTING 

  • Preparation and review of monthly general ledger postings. 

BUDGET & FORECAST (ANNUAL) – JAN/AUG 

  • Preparation of overhead budgets by cost centre.

  • Support compilation of NWF total company plan.

  • P&L.

  • Inputs to gross margin level come from Finance Business Partnership team.

  • R&I team compile overheads plan.

  • Consolidation of NWF + smaller entities – P&L.

  • Consolidation of NWF + smaller entities – Balance Sheet & Cashflow.

  • Annual Audit support. 

Role type: Permanent

Hours: Admin hours: Monday – Friday 8.30am – 5.30pm, 1 hour for lunch. 

About you 

  • Finance Graduate/Degree/AAT or starting study towards CIMA 

  • A love of being in the detail with excellent analytical skills.

  • Excellent Excel skills preferred – Pivot tables, v Look ups, formulas.

  • Experience of period end reporting cycles or preparing balance sheet reconciliations. would be useful although training can be provided.

  • Desire to pursue a career within Finance.

  • Flexibility - especially around reporting cycles.

  • A logical approach to work.

  • Positive with good communication skills
