Who We Are Looking for Our indirect tax consulting team based in the Midlands (across Birmingham, Milton Keynes and the East Midlands) is one of the leading providers of services to clients in the local market. We are looking for an individual with an interest in developing their indirect tax experience and to develop a career within an established team. Working alongside senior and junior members of the team you will be responsible for managing and delivering work on clients and projects across various areas of VAT and other indirect taxes. You will have a portfolio of clients that will require proactive management in terms of advancing work and opportunities, considering the applicability of new developments and co-ordinating the ongoing relationships both with clients and the various individuals on the wider firm's client teams. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work on a variety of clients from small owner managed businesses to multinational groups. The work undertaken will include dealing with standalone VAT liability queries (both UK and non-UK), supporting clients in enquiries and disputes with HMRC, involvement in claims and litigation projects, supporting clients with indirect tax processes and controls (and associated governance obligations) and helping clients to understand developments following changes in law and case law. This role provides the successful candidate with an unparalleled opportunity to build global VAT technical skills, the experience of working on complex and challenging assignments and the chance to build relationships across the global firm and with clients. The role will be based in central Birmingham, but with flexibility to work from, and a need to occasionally travel to, our offices in the East Midlands and Milton Keynes. With the ever increasing focus on governance, risk and process in VAT as a transactional tax (most recently with the implementation of Making Tax Digital), we see a great opportunity for individuals that have a background and experience in these areas to develop a key and sought after specialism but building on these skills alongside learning the required indirect tax knowledge "on the job". Candidates are not required to have previous indirect tax, or wider tax, experience; we expect that this knowledge will be learnt when in role. Working alongside senior and junior members of the team you will be responsible for managing and delivering work on clients and projects across various areas of VAT and other indirect taxes, but with a particular focus on technology, processes and controls. You will have a portfolio of clients that will require proactive management in terms of advancing work and opportunities, considering the applicability of new developments and co-ordinating the ongoing relationships both with clients and the various individuals on the wider firm's client teams. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work on a variety of clients from small owner managed businesses to multinational groups. In addition to supporting clients on a mix of technology, process and control projects (working alongside our wider network of technology specialists), there will be an opportunity to develop experience and be involved in a wider indirect tax work, including supporting clients in enquiries and disputes with HMRC; involvement in claims and litigation projects; and helping clients to understand developments following changes in law and case law. This role provides the successful candidate with an unparalleled opportunity to build on technology and process experience alongside developing global VAT technical skills. About the role Responsibilities On a day to day basis responsibilities will include Delegating to and managing junior members of the team. Researching technical questions and issues. Building relationships with wider teams within the firm, including various technology and risk & process teams, and working alongside them on projects. Liaising with other firms in out global network of firms. Proactively driving work and opportunities on clients forward. Considering the impact of law and case law changes on client portfolio. Working alongside others in the team to deliver written advice to clients. Communicating with clients to support them on indirect tax queries, issues and in their interaction with HMRC. Keeping up to date with indirect tax legislation and practical changes, particularly in relation to the governance, risk and process obligations. Ensuring high quality service delivery to our clients. Requirements Successful candidate will need to possess and demonstrate a broad range of capabilities and skills, including Previous experience in a role involving work on technology, risk and process projects. Proactivity in driving and managing work and others. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Excellent self-organisational skills. Ambition and a strong desire to succeed.
