St John's College seeks to appoint a Finance Analyst with proven Business Partnering skills who will be responsible for supporting and partnering with the senior Heads of Department to support budget management, identify cost drivers and maximise financial performance of their departments whilst minimising financial risks.

St John's College is one of the larger colleges in the University of Oxford. Founded in 1555 by Sir Thomas White, it is a long-established member of the thirty-eight colleges of Oxford University. Like all colleges, it is an independent, self-governing establishment, which functions both as an academic institution and as a social and residential centre for its members. The College has around 650 undergraduate and postgraduate students. The Fellowship includes approximately 100 academics, of which 60 are members of the College's Governing Body that has overall responsibility for all aspects of the running the College. Description

Due to increasing financial complexity, the College has decided to introduce a Finance Analyst to work with Senior Managers and Heads of Department across College. This is a new position created to ensure a consistent and efficient approach to financial management. The post holder will report to the College Accountant, will work closely with the Finance Bursar and Principal Bursar and departmental managers within a finance team who pride themselves on working towards collective goals and deadlines with enthusiasm.

Key responsibilities include supporting and enhancing budgeting and cost management across College. The successful candidate will have a proven ability in Finance Business Partnering and be able to adapt to new situations with ease.

The role will involve extensive work with domestic operational departments, helping to identify opportunities for cost reductions and efficiencies and therefore will require a strong understanding of how the College operates and the key drivers of income and expenditure. Previous experience of working in higher education is not essential, but it is important that the post holder should be prepared to develop an in-depth understanding of the operational activities of college, in order to support the College's fostering of excellence in education and research in a vibrant and socially diverse community.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate well with non-finance staff. Strong Excel and analytical skills will also be required. We are looking for an individual with a pragmatic approach.

Profile

Essential

  • Demonstrable business partnering experience;
  • Experience in a similar profile role;
  • Excellent spoken and written English language communication skills;
  • Ability to present information to a wide range of recipients and to challenge managers where appropriate;
  • Demonstrable experience of complex financial systems;
  • Strong organisational skills;
  • Advanced MS Excel experience.

Job Offer
