Our client, one of the largest independent builders merchants in the UK, a family-owned business with over 90 years of experience providing products and services to trades people and DIY enthusiasts. Well established in the construction industry as specialist in construction materials, civils, landscaping and timber, they pride themselves on excellent customer service, knowledgeable staff, coupled with a comprehensive range of products. The Role: The Group Credit Manager role, will be responsible for setting Credit Policy, ensuring that key goals are met for Collection of debts, minimisation of debts and maximisation of profitable sales across the four operating companies. Our clients group of companies has just implemented a new ERP system and the Group Credit Manager role will be responsible for developing the systems and functionality to leverage this investment whilst improving day to day operations within the Credit Control function. The successful candidate will have full responsibility for major, or sensitive, credit decisions across the four operating companies credit functions, overseeing by good management and delegation, all group litigation for debt collection and advises on complex cases. The role also calls for involvement in difficult legal claims against any Group company and the provision of legal advice to Managers or Directors. The Group Credit Manager ensures departmental systems and protocols are agreed - and amended as required, which are to be - monitored, measured and policed. GCM role is responsible for ensuring and maintaining the best possible relationships between the Credit function and across the whole business, with reference to relations with "Sales via the Deputy Group Credit Manager. The GCM will monitor relations between departmental staff members and intervene in the case of friction to ensure harmonious relations. The candidate: Our client is looking for candidates with first rate Credit Control experience, confidant and an excellent credit risk assessor. Good team player, with demonstrable negotiation and mediation skills. Good sense of humour helps as well. A decision maker with good communication skills and is happy undertaking presentations to peers and senior management. Being an excellent diplomat could be useful. A candidate with ideally a construction background and legal knowledge, is very advantageous, but not essential. A self-starter, who is methodical and comprehensive and can work with a minimum of supervision.
