The National Tax department provides technical support to the firm's Tax Faculty and includes a team of technical officers, typically Associate Directors, covering the range of UK taxes on which the firm advises. The technical officers report to the National Head of Tax Technical and work closely with the firm's tax service line heads, tax specialist groups and National Head of Tax. In particular, the VAT and indirect taxes technical officer works closely with the firm's Head of VAT and VAT business development partner as part of the wider VAT team. The principal responsibility of the technical officer is to ensure an up to date knowledge (including details of legislative proposals, case law, consultations etc) in respect of tax law and practice in their allocated specialist area(s) in order that National Tax is in a position to support the issue of appropriate internal technical guidance and client facing materials etc on technical issues that impact on the Tax Faculty and the firm's business and clients.
