We are currently recruiting for a compliance officer on behalf of our client based in Liverpool (very close to the city centre). Hours of work will be 07:45 - 17:30 Monday to Friday. Summary of Duties The Compliance Department is based at the Head Office in Liverpool. As a member of the Compliance Team, duties of the post include the provision of expertise and support in activities concerned with the application, maintenance and development of the Company's integrated quality, environment and health & safety management systems, ensuring compliance to ISO 9001; ISO14001 and OHSAS18001. This post will require an innovative and creative thinking approach utilising a variety of disciplines and knowledge. It will involve working with the Compliance Manager and the Compliance Team to deliver company objectives in accordance with current legislation and standards. The post holder will be operating in a challenging and dynamic environment and therefore must act as a role model for others ensuring the Company meets its legal obligations, remains compliant and acts as an exemplar of good practice in the metal recycling industry. Liaison with other departments and regulatory authorities will also be required. Job Description - Key

Responsibilities:
Work collaboratively with the Compliance Manager, the Environment Manager and the Health and Safety Manager to deliver legislative compliance and exceptional standards. Support the Company in meeting its legislative obligations and those appropriate to the ISO/OHSAS standards and other current relevant regulations. Maintain and develop the Company's IMS (Integrated Management System) in collaboration with the Compliance Team, reviewing and updating relevant documentation including but not limited to procedures, forms and work instructions. Maintain the system for recording all safety, environmental and damage incidents, providing statistical summaries and reports as required by Management Provide support for the investigation of incidents and events to determine root cause and make recommendations for preventing reoccurrence, identifying controls and effective monitoring. Undertake internal audits and maintain the system for recording non-conformities and opportunities for improvement raised during internal and external audits. Manage and co-ordinate the company's calibration system Maintain the Company's document and record control systems. Manage the Company Scorecard and other performance recording and tracking systems, ensuring they are updated as per Company standards. Maintain the contractor database to record all relevant documentation relating to contractors engaged by the Company. Communications - update the Company's television screens at each site used to display relevant compliance information and produce monthly newsletters in collaboration with the Compliance Team. Respond to requests for information from customers relating to permits, licences, statistical safety data etc Develop individual knowledge and expertise and mentor and train other staff as appropriate fostering an ethos of continuous learning, self-development and continuous professional development General

Reporting regularly to the Compliance Manager on all relevant matters Attendance at and travel to all Company sites as required Carrying out any additional duties that may be reasonably requested from time to time Compliance with Company policies, procedures and standards as defined on the Integrated Management System (IMS) and the post holder's terms & particulars of employment Person Specification - Key Competencies: A knowledge of best practice quality, environmental and health and safety management systems The ability to maintain records and produce information for management reports The ability to analyse data, identify measures/indicators of performance standards and make recommendations for improvement Excellent time management and organisational skills Effective oral and written communication skills Analytical, problem solving approach with excellent attention to detail Essential Skills/Experience: Educated to A Level standard or equivalent Recognised professional qualifications eg NEBOSH Experience of working within a compliance environment Knowledge of ISO/OHSAS standards and relevant Government Regulations Evidence of a pro-active 'can do' approach Excellent literacy and numeracy skills IT Literate with the ability to use a range of job specific packages, including Microsoft Office suite Ability to deliver verbal and written reports to staff at all levels Full, clean driving licence Ambitious, energetic and enthusiastic to learn Desirable Skills/Experience: Educated to degree level or equivalent Experience of working in the metal recycling industry Understanding of change management processes Recognised internal auditing qualification Note: Job descriptions are generic by nature and describe the requirements of the job and the competencies judged to be required to fulfil the post.This job description and person specification is therefore not exhaustive and will be subject to periodic review.
