Cost Accountant required for a fixed term contract based in Reading Town Centre. What an opportunity this is for an experienced Cost Accountant. If you have CCAB or similar we want to hear from you. Job Purpose for Cost Accountant 1. To develop and implement financial cost models for traded services across the organisation 2. In conjunction with the Financial Systems Team implement and roll out trading accounts as appropriate in order that traded activity can be accurately monitored and reported. 3. Working with Business Partners and the Analyst Team incorporate Trading Account activity into their budget monitoring arrangements. 4. Support the Commercialisation and Trading Board in the delivery of its objectives Designation of Post and Position within Departmental Structure 1. The role will report to the Chief Accountant. 2. On a day to day basis this post will work with Finance Business Partners, the Financial Systems Team and operational teams across the organisation to set up trading accounts and develop cost models to support the trading and commercialisation ambitions. 3. The role will support the Commercialisation and Trading Board in delivery of its objectives. Main Duties and Responsibilities for the Cost Accountant General functions of the role are: 1. To develop and implement cost models to support trading activity across the organisation, including defining data requirements, extracting and analysing data. Models should: Facilitate sensitivity analysis; Determine the fixed costs of services; Identify variable costs including points at which there are step changes in cost; and Facilitate unit costing. 2. To document all processes as they relate to the models. 3. To identify opportunities to drive improvements in systems and processes that will improve the data quality feeding into the cost models. 4. To set up Trading Accounts within the financial System, Oracle Fusion, as appropriate so that profit or loss on traded activity can be tracked and reported. 5. Working with Finance colleagues develop a suite of reports that facilitates reporting at all levels and which is integrated with the budget and corporate monitoring arrangements. 6. Work with Strategic Business Partners and the Financial Systems Team to ensure consistency of approach across the business. 7. Provide information as required to the Commercialisation and Trading Board as required in a clear and accessible form. 8. To provide training to the Finance Team and Stakeholders enabling them to manage and update the models in future years. Scope of Job (Budgetary/Resource Control/Impact) The post holder will interact with many other people and will need to maintain excellent working relationships with: Service managers Finance Business Partners Senior Managers Qualifications/Education/Training 1. CCAB qualified accountant or equivalent with several years post qualification experience. Experience 1. Working within a commercial organisation; 2. Proven experience of setting up and developing cost models; 3. Proven experience of setting up and operating trading accounts; 4. Extensive experience of providing financial input into tenders and evaluating bids for work Skills, Abilities & Competencies for the Cost Accountant 1. Thorough knowledge of accounting procedures and technical accounting requirements; 2. Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail without losing sight of the big picture; 3. Excellent Information Systems and Excel skills; 4. An understanding of local government finance; 5. Ability to build constructive working relationships with people at all levels across the organisation; 6. Excellent communication and presentation skills; 7. Driven to deliver results; 8. Resilient.
