Job Details
A Financial Accountant position with a core element in the financial management of VAT, tax and compliance.

The client is a multi-site and global institution that is almost 200 years old.
Description
Tax & Compliance
Responsible for timely co-ordination and completion of corporation tax returns for the group
Responsible for timely completion of VAT returns for the group, including PESM, RCV, CGS and any other schemes as required
Responsible for correct accounting entries and balance sheet reconciliations for all VAT and tax accounts
Responsible for reporting of all VAT and Tax, and providing support to relevant committees (e.g. Audit & Risk Committee)
Provision of advice relating to VAT, TAX and employment status queries, international tax, supporting HR and payroll where necessary
Working with professional advisors as required to ensure compliance with all tax and VAT requirements
Statutory Reporting and Accounting
- Support the preparation of the University's consolidated annual report and accounts, notably in respect of VAT & Tax
- Support internal and external auditors in their work and deal with queries and questions as required
UK and International Tax Compliance and reporting
- Work with Capital accountant to ensure correct VAT recovery on qualifying assets
- Provide in-house specialist advice on tax matters, working with external advisers.
- Provide internal advice in relation to tax matters, including overseas taxation issues
- Corporation Tax - Liaise with external advisers on the timely preparation and submission of annual Corporation Tax returns for the institution and its subsidiaries
- VAT - Liaise with external advisors, prepare quarterly returns, maintain policies and procedures, carry out month and quarter end reconciliations
Balance Sheet Management, including Reconciliations
Prepare other Balance Sheet reconciliations, investigate and highlight issues, and make recommendations for clearing erroneous balances
Research Grant Accounting
Ensure correct VAT treatment for research grants
Preparation and Maintenance of Financial Regulations/ Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Evaluation of Technical Issues/ Support
Investigate options and draft technical papers for presentation to Senior Managers
Continuous Improvement
Actively participate in continuous improvement activities, involving process and/or system enhancements
Profile
Education and Qualifications
- Candidates must be professionally qualified (e.g. ICAS, ICAEW, CIMA, ACCA or CIPFA)
Experience
Statutory Accounts preparation
Preparation of VAT returns including RCV PESM CGS
Preparation of Corporation Tax computations and compliance
Balance sheet management including reconciliations
ERP Finance Systems (e.g. Oracle
