A Financial Controller role for a family-owned SME company based in Maidenhead

Your new company
Founded in 1968, this family owned business has just celebrated its 50th year. The business has grown to become a well-established retail and wholesale company with a turnover of £19M. It employs 42 people in Maidenhead. The current Financial Controller is retiring this summer after some 13 years and is keen to recruit a successor who can support the Managing Director to help the business thrive. This role will suit an experienced and flexible Financial Controller who is looking to commit to a company for the long term


Your new role
You will enjoy a varied role. It encompasses a wide range of tasks that you would expect in a Head of Finance role (and some you may not!). This role will suit a qualified accountant who enjoys running a finance function but is also keen to support the Managing Director with operational and HR duties

Aim: To contribute to the ongoing profitable running of the business whilst ensuring good quality service to customers and compliance with all legal requirements.

Providing support as appropriate with financial decision making
Ensuring that the Company complies with all legal and financial requirements
Ensuring the finance function provides a professional and effective service
Company Secretarial tasks Human Resources - record management, starters / leavers and personnel issues Health & Safety involvement covering staff & produce (mainly shop)
Computer system Intact- Administrator- providing system expertise and liaising with colleagues to ensure they utilise the systems correctly
Insurances
Stock takes - Oversee with the managing director but responsible for final valuations reflected in the accounts
Dealing with various ad hoc tasks (financial & non-financial)


Responsible for:
Financial records and monthly Management Accounts
Cash flow detailed (includes foreign currency -euros)
Forecasts giving an integrated overview of P&L, Balance Sheet & Cash Flow
Annual Accounts preparation
Corporation Tax returns
Companies House reporting the annual compliance statement.
Personal tax returns for directors and family members
Payroll including HMRC reporting
Pension management of payments
Personnel - maintaining staff records covering starters, leavers, sickness etc
Manage 2 finance assistants

What you'll need to succeed
Qualified Accountant (ACA preferred but other bodies considered)
Broad range of experience including monthly payroll
Wanting to settle with a company for a good few years
Flexible to changing demands
Organised, able to prioritise
Have a rational logical approach
Able to work with a wide range of people
Be assertive when necessary
Be discreet & confidential
Problem solver
Self-motivated. Possess a "see it, fix it" attitude

Able to process accounts via Intact computer system (Windows based)
Excel
Manage people and demonstrate initiative
