EY delivers a critical contract on behalf of the UK Government to attract and deliver foreign direct investment (FDI) into the UK. This contract is a core part of EY's Government & Public Sector Advisory practice and International Trade capability. We are recruiting for a senior position - our Director of Partnerships - and are looking for senior FDI professionals with a proven track record FDI delivery to be part of our senior management team. As our Director of Partnerships, you will be responsible for delivery of FDI into the UK regions and developing strong regional connections within the Department for International Trade (DIT) and local government and commercial partners. The opportunity The Director of Partnerships for the Investment Services Team (IST) contract will set the strategic direction of the Partnership Management Team, leading and managing the team with responsibility for: Delivering a Partner & Stakeholder Management service across England and supporting relationship management of London & Partners and DAs Developing an outreach programme to D category foreign investors in the UK and relationship manage a portfolio of 'light touch' C category accounts. Delivering a programme of relationship management of a portfolio of intermediaries for lead generation and pipeline development. Reporting into the Chief Operating Officer, the post holder will take a strategic lead for developing the PMT agenda with the client. In addition, the post holder will be expected to take ownership of one of the horizontals of account management, lead generation or project management, setting principles of engagement and delivery across the IST. Your key responsibilities STRATEGY AND PLANNING Set the vision and direction for the Partnership Management Team (PMT), creating a high performing team to deliver across all 3 areas of focus: Partners & Stakeholders, Intermediaries, Existing Investors. Work with the client's Directors and other senior managers on annual business planning, partner engagement strategy and targeting to ensure the team's focus is fully aligned with that of the client and IST contract deliverables. Work with other members of the senior management team (SMT) to ensure alignment of PMT deliverables with the wider context of the IST contract. As a member of the SMT, contribute fully to delivery of SMT priorities, and in particular take on the strategic lead for one of the horizontals of Project Management, Account Management or Lead Generation, ensuring that principles are set and adhered to across the IST. Within business planning, review mechanisms to amplify EY as a lead generator for DIT. 2. Performance Management With other members of the Senior Management Team, take a strategic view across the whole of IST to ensure resource is appropriately deployed to meet and exceed all of IST's contract deliverables. Manage Heads of Partnerships in line with the Business Plan and Partner Engagement Plans to ensure targets and SPIs are achieved by all teams, including reviewing the performance of the team through quarterly reviews Lead the strategic direction of the Partnerships Team to ensure all geographic teams meet and exceed their targets for generating and securing FDI leads and partner commitments. Lead performance management for the Partnerships Team, ensuring best practice is shared across the heads of Partnerships and ensuring consistency of approach across all geographic area teams. 3.Operational Delivery Management Set performance criteria for Heads of PMT to ensure business plan targets are met. Coach and develop Heads of PMT in setting the strategic principles and targets for their own business planning and coaching activity. Develop lead generation expertise in the team, developing new ideas and training programmes Ensure all partner engagement plans are delivered and reviewed on a regular basis. 4. Client Management (DIT) Manage the HQ client relationship, representing IST and EY in governance meetings, facilitating a closer working relationship between DIT and IST Manage the strategic IST relationship with DIT HQ Directors; working to ensure all resources are aligned to meet PMT targets. Manage EY's commercial risk under the contract by managing scope creep and additional DIT asks Work with DIT teams to ensure the revised PMT remit is fully understood and recognised by the client. Lead the PMT in informing and influencing key stakeholders at the local, national and international level, ensuring in particular that partner engagement plans are being met. Drawing on effective influencing skills, to help shape their agendas and activities to support the IST's objectives. Ensure a UK First approach is delivered at all times. Key targets include: Secure the Partnerships Team targets as agreed in the business plan. Delivery of all LEP engagement plans. Secure IST's contract target and delivery against operational performance indicators working with SMT colleagues Demonstrated positive and productive working relationship between the IST, DIT HQ, Posts and local partners. Skills and attributes for success Leadership of teams Excellent team player with flexible and adaptable approach to work Proven ability to build and manage high level relationships Proactive problem solver, identifying and resolving issues or appropriately escalating them for attention Calm when working under pressure Proven planning and organisation skills with ability to work to tight deadlines To qualify for the role you must have: A strong track record in FDI delivery Demonstrated experience of leading and managing successful multi-disciplinary teams Public sector experience, ideally economic development Experience of working in a results-oriented, matrix managed environment Degree or equivalent professional qualification Experience in B2B or international business development arena Understanding of FDI flows Understanding of how organisations work in partnership to deliver joint outcomes Strong understanding of Local Partner priorities in economic development Demonstrated understanding of the following areas, with expertise in at least one: Commercial partners Existing investors/account management Partnership and stakeholder management Ideally, you'll also have An existing network of regional contacts in the field of FDI Experience working with DIT and/or a regional investment agency Experience in lead generation and working with commercial partners What we look for An FDI professional with a proven track record in FDI delivery, a first-hand understanding of the local and regional networks in the UK responsible for supporting foreign investors and an individual with the enthusiasm and credibility to lead.
