UK Finance Manager Southwark, London (with international travel) About us PEAS is an international education not-for-profit. We exist to expand access to quality secondary education in Africa. Today, there are over 20 million children in Sub-Saharan Africa without access to secondary education, and education gives opportunity to lift people out of poverty, help keep themselves and their families healthy and participate constructively in democracy. So, we build and run not-for-profit secondary schools in Uganda and Zambia. Starting in 2008, PEAS now have 32 secondary schools which educate over 16,000 children. Whilst we are proud of our success to date, we are bold in our ambition. Our goal is to improve the educational outcomes of millions of children across Africa and the developing world. We are looking to expand our school networks and to use our experience and expertise to help others run great secondary schools too. To support our ambitions for growth, we are looking for a qualified accounting professional who shares our passion about transforming lives through education to join us in our next chapter. The role As UK Finance Manager, you will be building on a strong momentum of financial management improvement. After fast growth, we have spent the last two years consolidating our financial management approach across our network of schools and programmes making good progress. But there is still a lot more we want to achieve, and this role will sit within an ambitious global team where processes are regularly being reviewed, refined and innovated. Supported by a Finance and Administration Assistant for UK bookkeeping, The UK Finance Manager will work closely with the Grant Managers and Finance teams in both Uganda and Zambia providing technical assistance in all offices and representing PEAS global finance at our quarterly meetings of PEAS finance sub-committee. You will play a pivotal role as we expand into new geographies and take on new projects to use our expertise and experience to support other educators; providing our global strategy team with the financial analysis to make good financial decisions and ensure we are compliant with any tax and charities commission regulations in this new area. Key Priorities - Take ownership of all PEAS UK financial processes - Leading on PEAS' cash management, including planning foreign exchange transfers - Produce monthly management accounts for PEAS UK, monthly global consolidated management accounts and annual group audited financial statements - Financial reporting and budget preparation for PEAS major grants and proposals - Support to UK team with financial analysis to support broader decision-making - Technical assistance to the Uganda and Zambia finance teams with relevant expertise - Using your experience from UK finance to advise teams on best practice in financial management and strategic finance You will be part of a small and friendly London based team who are committed, effective and values aligned. There will be regular travel to Africa (approx. 4 times a year) as it is vital to have an in-depth knowledge of our schools and programmes for effective grant management and global financial management improvement. To be considered as the UK Finance Manager, you will need to have/be: - A passion about transforming lives through education - At least three years' finance and audit experience - A part or fully qualified accountant with an ICAEW, ACCA or CIMA qualification - Strategic decision-making experience - Experience with, or the willingness to learn, Xero and QuickBooks - Experience and skills in building relationships and influencing others to achieve results - The ability to build complicated spreadsheets to support grant reporting and financial modelling - The ability to consolidate accounts - An understanding of charity accounting and the ability to apply your knowledge to comply with charity fundraising Benefits - £40,000 - £50,000 based on experience - 28 days' annual leave bank holidays - Matched contribution-based pension of up to 6% - Flexible working policy - International travel The closing date for applications is Sunday the 31st March 2019.
