Job Details

Exciting opportunity for an adventurous accountant looking to gain international experience, work with inspiring people and support sustainable development in Kenya.

Are you an accounting professional looking to use your skills and experience to give something back to society and those less fortunate around the world? Perhaps swap London for Laos, Melbourne for Malawi or Boston for Belize!?

Accounting for International Development offers every type of accountant, from anywhere in the world, the opportunity to use their skills to support a broad range of non-profit organisations globally. Volunteer Accounting Assignments of between 2 weeks and 6 months form part of our ongoing strategy to build the financial management capacity of charities in over 50 countries. Background

Based in the small coastal town of Watamu, known for its marine national park and reserve, our partner is a small community-based organisation focussed on improving public health. They are seeking a volunteer to help them meet donor compliance and reporting requirements.

Their programmes include campaigns to prevent infectious tropical diseases, raise awareness of HIV, promote family planning and maternal and child health services and ensure the distribution of reusable sanitary pads.

Originally an informal group, the organisation now receives funding as an implementing partner of larger, more established NGOs. As they are starting to grow, they are keen to ensure that they will be able to meet donor compliance and reporting requirements and have requested support in identifying the most appropriate new accounting system to use.

Your Role

Your role will be akin to undertaking an internal audit – reviewing their accounting & financial management controls, processes and systems, and making and implementations for best practice based on the resources available to them and the skillset of the local team.

Company

Accounting for International Development (A f I D) offers accountants the opportunity to use their skills to make a genuine difference as volunteers and to gain invaluable hands-on overseas experience in the International Development sector.  Tailored volunteer assignments of 2 to 12 weeks form part of an ongoing strategy to build the financial management capacity and long term sustainability of small community based charities across Africa, Asia and South America. Our partners which include street kid centres, health clinics and rural schools are doing amazing work to tackle extreme poverty and inequality in their communities but are unable to access vital professional services. A f I D is now supporting almost grassroots charities in over 50 countries across Africa, Asia and South America and are keen to talk to more accountants willing to share their invaluable skills and experience. In only ten years we are pleased to announce the placement of our 1000th  volunteer. This will take the total hours of pro-bono financial management coaching by our volunteers to over 200,000. An extraordinary effort, that assisted the development, and in some cases survival, of some fantastic organisations. A f I D is a double award winning social enterprise supported by UnLtd & The Millennium Awards Trust (Funded by the National Lottery).
