Role Summary Reporting to the senior financial accountant, this varied and challenging role will be responsible for period end accounting and reporting for a range of areas including gross profit and stock. The role is part of the Financial Accounting team, but the successful candidate will be expected to be comfortable building strong relationships across the wider finance team as well as other business teams, including the store operations and commercial teams. The Finance team at Dunelm is a group of around 80 colleagues, which is small enough to enable roles to be broad but at the same time large enough to offer ample opportunities for development into new areas. What You'll Do:
• Ensuring accurate and relevant recording of period-end transactions, providing clear and appropriate supporting schedules
• Performing periodic balance sheet reconciliations on a variety of accounts and presenting these at balance sheet review meetings
• Preparing budgets and forecasts for various P&L accounts, providing commentary for any variances to the forecasts
• Ensuring a robust methodology is applied to key accounting estimates, for example stock provisioning
• Dealing with half year and year end audit queries
• Management of 1 Assistant Financial Accountant, ensuring high quality output, personal development, mentoring and supporting professional development
• Working with IT to ensure accounting treatments of new initiatives and systems developments are built effectively and work in line with financial requirements
• Developing strong working relationships with a wide range of areas across the business to understand processes and challenge and to identify improvements
• Other tasks as required by the team Qualifications Essential Skills
• ACA/ ACCA/ CIMA qualified
• Strong financial accounting skills, understanding & familiarity of month end and statutory year end procedures
• Strong organisational skills, logical approach and attention to detail
• Proven ability to work to deadlines whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Self-motivated, resilient and able to demonstrate initiative Desirable Skills
• IT skills with strong knowledge of Excel including pivot tables and lookups
• Competent in the use of ERP systems (SAP desirable)
• Qualified in practice Behaviours We Like
